Day 3185 – It’s Never Too Late For Your Dreams To Come True

There’s one thing that really bothers me. When people don’t pursue their dreams. I really hate excuses. (Totally talking to myself here too.) I hear it all the time in these phrases…

“it must be nice”
“I’ve always wanted to do that”
“I’ll never”
“it’s too late”
“I should have”

For a number of reasons and because of a number of experiences, I live pretty much every day of my life as if it was my last. I have no regrets. I have pursued things. Sometimes they fail, sometimes they don’t.

I’ve started to have really big dreams and goals. Some I’m actively working towards, some of them are down the line. But I’ve started to actually believe they are possible. I’m moving past the fear of writing them down and putting them out there. I have things like meeting Oprah (I’ve met Stedman, so I’m only one degree of separation away there!) and Tim Ferris. Doing Yoga with Adriene. Being a New York Times best seller. To be a millionaire. To meet YouTubers I’ve followed for years. (One of those is actually coming true in less than 3 months! AH!) To live on the water.

I think one of the biggest hurdles is just believing it’s possible. Getting rid of your excuses and actually doing the thing.

Bret and I had a conversation the other night after hearing a statistic – people watch an average of five hours of TV….a day. A DAY?!?! I said, how many people could start businesses in those five hours? How many books could be read in those five hours?

This morning, I read an article and watched a video about someone who had what seemed like an impossible dream, that actually come true. It was such a great reminder that it IS possible to achieve your dreams.

So friends, keep dreaming. Keep pushing after your dreams. Every person who had a dream doubted it at some point. Every one of them started from scratch. Every super successful person is just another person. Just like you.

Day 3184 – Woooo Spring Break…All Four Days Of It…

Today is the first day of Bret’s spring break. I didn’t expect to do much “days off” celebrating, but Bret surprised me today by wanting to sleep in. Dudes, we slept until 7:30! It was positively luxurious! See, Bret has been getting up at 4 and I’m getting up roughly 5/5:30. So 7:30 is a BIG sleep in. It was so nice to not feel rushed this morning. Granted, my morning routine is, well, non-existent, but the have to’s are getting done. I have a feeling the next four days will all look like weekend days. I’m much less strict about my routines and to dos on the weekends….which is something I do want to work on, but I also want to give myself grace and self-love. I tell ya, letting go of what my days should look like, embracing what they ARE and working with that has been a game changer.

I’m looking forward to hanging out with Bret, watching some movies (side note, it looks like Ready Player One’s “partial nudity” is ok for us to watch, so I’m super excited and we’ll likely see it this weekend), seeing friends, and honestly, working our butts off on our business. It’s been so much fun getting into a groove with working together again, playing to our strengths and sharing the workload. I’m excited to see what this year holds for us because it has been SO good so far and we’re only 1/4 of the way through. Wooo!

I will say, it will look a little like this….

Day 3181 – How To Deal With Disappointment In Marriage – repost

This came up in my cleaning up the blog session this morning. While not a big marriage disappointment (not getting to take a trip), I think the advice still holds true for bigger disappointments.

Tomorrow marks 9 years since I met Bret. Because of this, we never really celebrated Valentine’s Day. As our dear friend Josh says, you should celebrate love every day. I joke a lot that we celebrate on the day we met so we can get cheap candy.

A bonus of Bret teaching is the number of holidays he gets off. Last year, President’s Day fell on our “met-ya-versary” and we did a mini getaway. It was so great. So this year, I thought, maybe we could do another one? As luck would have it, I found a great Groupon and we booked a 2 night stay Sunday through Tuesday. Bret had to be back to work Tuesday morning, which meant we’d have to leave super early.

As the weather report firmed up, Bret thought it wise to cancel the trip. So we did. I have to admit, I was really disappointment. I’ll be the first to tell you that our living situation is fantastic. It honestly feels like we’ve been on a trip for the last 10 months. But it’s always fun to go away. So once the trip was cancelled, I was really bummed. I even went as far as to look up hotels that were closer for a 1 night stay…before the weather got in the way. It was supposed to start around 11/12, so we figured it wouldn’t be so bad getting home. Bret was on board, but then we decided it probably wouldn’t be a good idea. Again, I was disappointed.

Here’s what we did instead…

Thursday night, we went on a date to a restaurant nearby. Delicious food and good conversation.
Saturday, we got coffee and enjoyed good conversation.
Sunday after church, we tried a buffet and it was one of the best buffets we’ve ever been to. After we got home, we watched a movie, read and chatted. We were able to watch The Walking Dead and Talking Dead live.
This morning, as we walked out the door to grab Dunkin for breakfast, it had already started to snow…a good 3 hours before the weather had called for. I realized, Bret made a really great decision. It would’ve been a mess coming home from the second option of a hotel.

While at first, I was really disappointed….and I let Bret know I was disappointed (I think a big key to dealing with disappointment). I told him since we couldn’t go, I wanted to do something….or at least know what we would do. I’m thankful for that conversation, because it has been a truly wonderful weekend and celebration of us.

How do you deal with disappointment in your marriage?

Day 3177 – Thanks Snow! – or – Real Dates With Bret!

Whooo hooo! I’m so thankful for the snow this week! While I did come down with a cold on the first day, it has been a really great time off with Bret. The first day I mostly rested after I finished my priority work, but we did get to watch Thor Ragnarok. I’ve had a hold request on the DVD at the library for over a month, how wonderful that it arrived the DAY before the snow day! We had recently watched Spiderman Homecoming, in an effort to catch up before Avengers Infinity War. Yesterday, Bret was off of school again, but by lunch, most of the snow had melted, so we were able to watch Black Panther in the theater.

I am SO pumped for Infinity War!
