Day 3405 – What Am I Reading Now?

It’s been a while since I gave an “in progress” reading photo, so here you go! I’m making my way through some of the harder prompts in The Mommy Mannegren 52 Books in 52 Weeks Challenge.

I’m reading Death of a Salesman for a book that has won a Pulitzer Prize – any year. I’m really having a hard time with this one. I can’t really get into it, but I’m putting in about 2 pages a day.

Pippi Longstocking is going to be for a book by a Scandinavian Author. It’s been really fun to read this one. I believe I read it as a kid and I definitely have lots of Pippi tendencies.

Howliday Inn is going to fulfill a book originally published in the year you were born. What’s great about this book is that the author, James Howe, wrote one of my all-time favorite kid’s books, Brontorina. It’s been really funny so far.

The Little Prince is going to fulfill a foreign book translated to English. I tried to read this last year but just couldn’t get into it. I’m trying again and I am enjoying it so far.

EC Stories, Do Purpose and I’d Rather Be Reading are just ones I’m reading because I wanted to. I’m not sure if they’ll fit into any of the prompts, but we’ll see.

What are you reading right now?

Day 3404 – How One Decision Can Change Your Life Forever

I’m currently reading I’d Rather Be Reading by Anne Bogel, and I have to say, it is a delightful read for any reader. I’ve always loved what Anne has to say on Modern Mrs. Darcy, from her book recommendations to organizational tips. This morning, I read about how one decision changed her life.

It got me thinking about the decisions I’ve made that have changed my life in big ways and small ways.

If I hadn’t gone on what I thought was a blind date (what it was is really a really long story), I wouldn’t have met Bret.

If I hadn’t been moved by someone else’s testimony, I never would have shared publicly about my alcoholism.

If I hadn’t shared about my alcoholism, others wouldn’t have felt led to share their struggles…with me or those important to them.

If I had said yes to something, and no to something else, I wouldn’t have gotten sober when I did, which is something I truly wouldn’t trade for the world.

If I hadn’t decided to help Bret with his business, it wouldn’t have become our business, and I wouldn’t have been able to help as much as I am now.

I have made big decisions, small decisions, life-changing decisions, but the thing is, you won’t always know that a decision will change your life until years later. This brings me back to my advice to have a record of things. Whether a journal or a blog that you share with almost 2000 people.

Also, take time to look back and see how you got to be where you are.

And, as always, enjoy the journey.

Day 3403 – Sharing A Car For Nearly Four Years

I used Day 3038 as a base for this post, but added a few updates.

For nearly four years, we have shared a car. It’s not something most couples could realistically do, between different jobs, kids, and different interests.

When we had to go down to one vehicle, we thought, well, let’s try it and see how long we can last. I can say, there have only been a handful of times that it’s been a struggle in the last four years. We’ve saved a lot of money with only one vehicle. It’s also helped us both grow in patience. Sometimes we have to wait for the other, sometimes it can be for a long time. But thankfully, I have a job that’s super flexible and now that I’ve taken on more with our real estate business, I can do things Bret can’t do during the day while he’s at school. Just a few weeks ago, I went to an appointment and a closing because he couldn’t.

I mentioned in the last post that more time together was a benefit. Now that we live less than a mile from his school, there’s less time in the car together, so that’s not as big of a deal anymore.

While there is a part of me that misses being able to up and go whenever I want, it has forced me to be logical about my errands and running around.

I’m sure at some point we’ll get another car, but for now, it works for us and has saved us quite a bit of money.

What about you? Have you ever shared a car with your spouse?

Day 3402 – 148 Books Read – Update Of Reading Challenges

I figured today was a good day to give you an update of my reading challenges! My current goal is 200 books, and I think I can make it. As I’m getting down to the end of a few of the challenges, it’s getting much tougher since I put off some of the harder categories.

Book #132 – To Make Monsters Out of Girls – this fulfilled a book by a female author in the Reading Bingo challenge.
Book #133 – Note to Self: Inspiring Figures Write to the Young People they Once Were – this fulfilled a book of short stories in the Reading Bingo challenge.
Book #134 – An Audience of One: Reclaiming Creativity for Its Own Sake – this fulfilled a book involving a sport in the Popsugar challenge. He talks a lot about surfing, so I eeked this one in. 😀

Book #138 – Way of the Warrior Kid: The New Recruit – this fulfilled a book mentioned in another book in the Popsugar challenge. His first book, was mentioned in Tools of the Titans (I think. Haha, eeked this one too).

Book #143 – Influencer: Building Your Personal Brand in the Age of Social Media (affiliate link) – this fulfilled a book with a one-word title in the Reading Bingo challenge. Haha, this was another eeker cus it technically has a subtitle. What can I say, it’s getting close to the end of the year. But all joking aside, this book was AMAZING for anyone thinking of being an influencer online. Very meat and potatoes and I love those kinds of books. I highly recommend it! As I mentioned, it is an affiliate link, which just means I get a small percentage if you order, at no additional cost to you. It’s a way of saying thanks for my recommendation!
Book #144 – We’re All Wonders – this fulfilled any book from the 2017 Good Reads Choice Awards in the Mommy Mannegren 52 books challenge.

Day 3401 – Fallback Friday To My First And Only Marine Corps Ball!

Oh friends, this has been quite a week. I am SO excited to have a restful and productive weekend. It’s the first weekend in a month that we’ve actually been home! Because of the nature of this week, lots of things have been slipping and put to the side (the time of my blog posts included if you haven’t noticed). With that in mind, I’m taking it a little easy today and sharing photos from the USMC ball we FINALLY got to go to, five years ago today. 🙂

Bonus, this first photo was from our first attempt.
