Day 3127 – Doing Things You Said You’d NEVER Do

How many times have you thought to yourself…
“I would never do that”
“You’ll never catch me doing XYZ”
“Can you believe they 123?”
“I would NEVER stop ABC!”

I definitely have a long list of things I said I would never do, that would never be true of me, that I would never do again. Thankfully, my story doesn’t stop there. I am SO glad that I am doing things or not doing things I would have thought I would always do.

– After a break up with a long distance boyfriend, I said I would NEVER do a long distance relationship again. Thankfully, I did have a long distance relationship (ha ha, and at one point it was multiple countries long distance).

– After different experiences, I said I would never date a military guy. Thankfully, again, that was not the case.

– I thought I could never quit drinking. While I attempted many times to do so, I finally did do that thing I never thought I would/could do.

– I’ve never really liked the MLM marketing systems. I HATE being sold to and not helped (can you tell I’m watching a summit on sales that don’t suck this week?) I hate being sold a product that I don’t need. Last year, I had a need for a good way to change the smell of a room. Through talking to a friend, I was helped by using essential oils. For YEARS I thought those “oil people” were crazy. Like, really, it’s just oil, come on now, calm down. But I got myself set up with a diffuser, and started diffusing lemon, peppermint, and lavender. It smelled great, but it wasn’t until I came upon allergy season and something happened that I was changed. Dudes, as soon as I felt my allergies kicking in, and thought, wait, I wasn’t feeling that earlier, I refilled the diffuser, and I realized that it was actually helping me! Now, this is NOT a buy oils from me statement. I have no desire to do that. But you better believe I’m encouraging people to try it out, no particular brand (though I am a doterra girl), just a “hey, this worked for me and it might work for you.” I’ve also come to believe in the “even if it doesn’t make sense, but it works for you, go for it!” school of thought.

– I never thought I would stop wedding photography, and yet, it was one of the better decisions I’ve made. And a really awesome ride. We met so many great couples and made so many friends along the way. There are days I miss THAT part. Ha ha, and the wedding industry is really really cool. But hey, it meant I could jump out of a plane and not worry about leaving my couples without a wedding photographer (seriously, I didn’t jump out of a plane until a few months after my last wedding).

I never thought I would change in a myriad of ways. But I’ve learned that constant change is the best thing that can happen to you.

What have you sworn you would never do, but did?

Day 3122 – Actual Footage Of Us Working Together

Working with your spouse may sound like fun. Getting to hang out with your favorite person all the time, going on adventures together, etc. One thing we’ve been aware of recently is this idea that you shouldn’t compare your life to someone’s highlight reel. i.e. What people put online is rarely the full story. A beautiful photo may have taken 30 minutes to stage just right.

But, here at 365, we like to give you the truth about things. Some things about working together are freakin’ amazing and some things are really hard. Today, we spent some time discussing our real estate business, who will do what, and how we can grow. There were a few times it was a little super stressful, and really not fun. For example, Bret recently posted that he closed his third deal. But he didn’t share how many hours he put in, how many mistakes were made, how many decisions he had to make without knowing how it would end up, how many nos he heard, etc.

We figured we’d give you a recreation of our discussion today!

Editor’s note – Bret was not stressed at all, Jen was. You never know the full story.

While it can be frustrating, and we don’t have it all figured out in our marriage or business, it’s really cool that we’re figuring it out together.

Day 3119 – One Of My Secrets To Reading A Lot

Last night, I realized one of my secrets to reading more – a comfy place to read. Since Bret was out and not using the other chair, I created the reading boat, and stuffed it full of blankets and pillows. I read a delightful book about introverts too.

As I’ve said before, my word this year is No. I say no to a lot of things. This quote came up in my travels yesterday, and I really think it applies.

The difference between successful people and very successful people is that very successful people say no to almost everything. – Warren Buffett

A lot of my success and personal growth has come from being able to say no, and not feeling bad about it. (lol, it’s been a looooonnnnnggggg process).

So, I said no to more work (it was getting pretty late in the day), I said no to playing games or watching TV, and I cuddled up, and caught up on some reading.

Like the chairs? We love them, and highly recommend them. You can get them here! (this is an Amazon affiliate link, so if you order them or something else on Amazon, you won’t pay any more, and we’ll get a small percentage)

Day 3117 – Remembering Bret’s Previous Business

I have to say, it has been so much fun working with Bret again on a business. We are both serial entrepreneurs and just love working in businesses with him.

A few years back, Bret started a personal training business. While that only lasted a short time, it was a great learning experience.

One market we tried to get into was the wedding industry. So what did we do? Well, put me in my wedding dress and threw me outside to “workout” in it!

This was taken in 18 degree weather….and it felt like 4.

What about you? Have you worked with your spouse? Are you a serial entrepreneur? Let me know below!

Day 3115 – A New Thing I’m Trying – Visualizing The Future

Between Bret and myself, we read a lot. We gain inspiration and ideas from a lot of places. One thing Bret recently did was create a vision for himself for the end of this year. It is full of tangible, and measurable goals. Inspired and encouraged by his, I created my own. I’ll share a few things I have for myself. Ha ha, obviously, this is not everything, as some things I don’t want to share publicly for various reasons. But these are definitely the highlights.

“It’s December 31, 2018…
We have finished a banner year, XXX in deals, I have published 2 new books…
I have helped Bret in many ways in our business and we are enjoying traveling freely, have six months in the emergency fund…
I have read 300 books…
I approached each day with child like joy…
every day was another opportunity to grow…
I ruthlessly said no to many, many things, so I could say “oh heck yea” (like Jenna Marbles) to the precious few…
I’ve even purchased a few Star Wars Lego sets…”

This was super fun to create and I have it hanging next to my desk and so I see it every day. I could be much better at actually reading and actually seeing myself doing those things. I have some measurable goals and some abstract, but it reflects MY life and where I want to be. It’s helpful in keeping me going on the rough days and encourages me to carry on.

Have you ever done something like this? Did it help?
