Day 3348 – Dream Big, Think Small – A Book That Surprisingly Changed Everything – Read A New Book Month Day 10

I’ve talked about Dream Big, Think Small: Living an Extraordinary Life One Day at a Time* by Jeff Manion before, but it bears repeating during read a new book month, because this one completely changed my life and mindset about small steps.

Before I read this book, I stressed about how much work I was doing on this blog and really, all areas of my life. I felt like what I was working on just wasn’t making a difference in my life. But this book taught me that even little, bitty, baby steps added up to a lot over time. Just the act of showing up and writing for five minutes each day adds up to two and a half hours of writing in a month. Just the act of showing up for this blog every day and writing a few hundred words adds up to about half a million over the lifetime of the blog. I was floored by that one right there. This idea of just reading a few pages every day in a few books adds up to full books read.

If you’re feeling like you’re not making headway on things and find that you’re beating yourself up, this really is the book for you. I point to this book as a huge life-shifting book, and often. What’s funny, is I found it completely randomly. It wasn’t in the new books section, it wasn’t recommended by someone else. I was killing time in the library, and walking the stacks, and found it that way. I don’t do this type of library search often, but I’m so glad I found this book. I read it last year, but it is still helping me to not negate the small stuff I do every day.

This photo is a picture of how I track the “small stuff” in my life. I’ve since modified this to include quite a bit more, but the idea is the same, little bits, every day.

Day 3344 – A Book That Has Changed My Money Mindset And My Life – You Are a Badass at Making Money – Read A New Book Month Day 7

I’ve read You Are a Badass at Making Money: Master the Mindset of Wealth* by Jen Sincero three times as of the writing of this post. I listened to the audiobook each time and I have to say, Jen is a fantastic audiobook reader. To hear the author explain her work is really, really helpful. It doesn’t hurt that she’s absolutely hysterical.

This book helped me to look at money and myself differently. It showed me that SO many more things are possible in my life and that they are within my grasp. This book helped to push me to try my hand at a new blog and caused me to see the value in purchasing a course bundle (which I might add has already made me money).

If you have struggles with how you view money, whether it’s “rich people are gross” or “I can’t afford it” this book will help you to see things in a different light, and begin to look at yourself differently. I have already seen changes in myself, Bret (who has read it twice), and a good friend who is on her second read. This book also reminds me that just one suggestion can change multiple lives. Never negate the power of your words.

Day 3226 – Life-Changing Book – You Are A Bad A$$ At Making Money

I read – a lot. I’m already clocked at 73 books this year, over 17,000 pages, and still going strong. Reading is such an important part of my life. It helps me to learn things that apply to my different jobs, my clients, and just my mindset in general. So for me to say that a book is life-changing is a little bit of a big deal.

These links are Amazon affiliate links. All this means is that if you decide to purchase the books or something else on Amazon, I get a small percentage, and you don’t pay anything extra. I will only ever use affiliate links to books and products I have read and/or use myself. I totally, completely, highly recommend these books.

The book in question is You Are a Badass at Making Money: Master the Mindset of Wealth by Jen Sincero. This and You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life have been on my To Be Read list for quite some time. I finally got the audiobooks out of the library and listened to both really quickly. She has a way of explaining our mindsets and making comparisons to other things that’s really clear and understandable. Full disclosure, there is language….if that wasn’t apparent from the titles of her books. I recommend the audiobooks because you can hear her inflection and pauses. Haha, and she’s really, really funny.

This book came at a bit of a perfect storm in my life where I had realized – I haven’t been valuing myself in my work (like, it’s embarrassingly bad), I have something to share (secret project I’ll share at some point), I need to make investments in myself and not only be all about investing in our real estate business. For all the books I read, you would think I would have recognized this in myself a lot sooner, but hey, life is about growth and change, amiright?

There was a section in You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life where she talks about the importance of you showing up and doing what you were put on this planet to do. She compared not showing up to your favorite band. How much would it stink if they never went into the studio, never practiced, never wrote any new song? And it just hit me, I have a message to share with people. I have a deep passion for something and by me not sharing that and helping others, they could be missing out on something great.

So, I decided to make a commitment, purchase a course bundle that will help me jumpstart the project, and get started on this new business/dream/project. But then, we were looking into buying a car, putting in an offer on our first house (didn’t get it by the way), and a ton of other financial reasons that said “you shouldn’t do this now!” But I fought my old ways of thinking, and I said you know, if I don’t do this now, I won’t do it. So, I took some time to write out a contract with myself. I listed things I struggle with and how I wouldn’t let them define this new project. And I purchased the course.

And all of this happened because of these books.

What book changed your life?

Day 2847 – A Book That Changed My Life – Unmistakable

While enjoying my time here, I finished reading an absolutely life-changing book, Unmistakable* by Srinivas Rao. The whole idea of the book is that being only, is so much better than best. You want your work to be unmistakable.

I have taken copious notes while reading this book. But I wanted to share this quote in particular.

We become so indoctrinated, it’s as if we’ve been institutionalized. We forget that our life is what we make of it. Only when we have the audacity to question the status quo can we disrupt it.

I cannot even put into words how many life-changing thoughts came through the pages and into my brain. So many things that gave me confirmation about who I am, who I want to be, and not caring what others think.

If you need a little (or big) jump start in your life, I highly recommend this book.

Day 2643 – Simplicity In Marriage – A Book That Changed Our Marriage Before It Started

Before we were married, we went through a book with our bible study, When Sinners Say I Do by Dave Harvey*. This book gave us some amazing advice and really helped prepare us for the journey ahead. The biggest thing that stood out to me is admitting to your spouse “I’m a big fat sinner.” Nearly eight years later and we still say this to each other, especially after a big argument. It basically means realizing that you are not a perfect person, you never will be and come into the marriage totally messed up. Have you read this book? What did you think?
