Day 734 – A Day of Rest

Today we took our day of rest. It was so wonderful! It was also REALLY hard!!! I’m very much a workaholic, ahem, “passionate about my work” type of person. I can work a 12 hour day editing images from a wedding and still be up for more! So, as I approach working full time as a photographer, I’m seeing that taking a day of full and complete rest is going to be VERY necessary! And also something that will take discipline. Funny thought, huh? You have to discipline yourself to rest. If you don’t believe me…try it, just one day, no work (obviously, make this a day you’re not scheduled to work!)…it’s harder than you think! Then again…maybe it’s just me…

What did we do today you ask? Well…first, we slept until 11:30! Solid! Don’t forget that we saw the midnight showing of Harry Potter last night! We got home around 2:30 and maybe asleep by 3….so, it’s not so bad… then we started playing Lego Star Wars. We are seriously addicted to this game. It may be a problem. Then we grabbed lunch with my brother at Jason’s Deli and did a little shopping with him. Bret then went to hang out with my brother at my parents’ house and I stayed home. I started a puzzle, watched movies and just flat out relaxed. It was glorious. I didn’t even turn on my computer! I did check my Facebook a few times….and my business email just once!

Here is the mostly completed puzzle with the controllers for the game! Great day!

Day 733 – Harry Potter Date Night

Today we finally had our celebration of our anniversary!
(Though, I feel like we celebrated all week!)

It was a wonderful evening of food, conversation and Harry Potter. I have read all the books and really love them! I got Bret into them when we drove cross country. We listened to the first five books on CD (which is a GREAT way to pass the time when you’re driving! Though, make sure it’s an upbeat book! We tried to listen to a very technical book on our overnight drive to Lake Placid and I think we made it 10 minutes. It was putting me to sleep!)

I won’t give any kind of movie review in, because if I’m really looking forward to seeing a movie, I don’t want to know ANYTHING about it! Though, I think half the country saw it already…but still! I’ll just say that I am satisfied.

For dinner, we went to Ryan’s Daughter. We got cream of crab soup, pub fries (I didn’t see it on the online menu, but it was melted cheese, bacon bits and fries chips. Delish! For dinner, Bret got a burger (half price on Thursdays!) and I got my usual for an Irish Pub…Shepherd’s Pie. I really adore SP. 🙂 It was pretty tasty here!

Didn’t have one of my fancy, shmancy cameras…but Bret’s phone takes decent pictures….

Day 731 – Anniversary Wine

Today we decided to go get a bottle of wine and just chill together. Something we haven’t done in a while. It was a little anniversary celebration, since we didn’t get to hang out last night. We went to our local liquor store and found, really, the most perfect bottle of wine. It’s called Monkton Moon Delight by Basignani Winery. What made this the most perfect bottle of wine was that we were married in Monkton! And to enjoy this bottle just a day after our anniversary was really awesome. We also got some little “mini bar” bottles. We like to try something new every so often, and it’s a great way to do so without buying the whole bottle. I love that our wedding picture is in the background! Thank you Bret for taking this picture! You’ve grown so much as a photographer in the past two years! I’m so very proud of you!

Day 730 – How I Spent My Anniversary

Today is my second wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, Bret had to work this evening. I’m alright with this because we are celebrating on Thursday evening and all day Friday! We’ll be attending a midnight showing of the last Harry Potter movie. (I am beyond excited about this!) We’ll be grabbing dinner beforehand (eating out is always a treat for us!) Friday, we get to just lounge around because we’re both off. We are really trying to discipline ourselves to take a Sabbath every week. It can be so hard! Especially while I’m still working two jobs. There’s so much to do all the time! But it is a commandment that God gives and we want to try and obey Him. I’m looking forward to resting!

So, how am I spending my anniversary evening? Well, first, I bought myself a few presents….

After I pig out, I’m going to spend the rest of the evening catching up on emails, client requests and switching the blog over to a “.com”! I’m so excited to upgrade the blog! It has been really neat to see what it’s become so far. It’s been challenging to think of something interesting to capture each day…but I feel like it’s helped me as a photographer already…to look at things differently.

I also wanted to take a minute to honor Bret. He has been an amazing husband in our two short years. He has supported me so much during this time. I would not have been able to pursue my dream of full time wedding photography if it wasn’t for him. He has helped me to love my Savior more, how to see things from different perspectives, how to be healthier, how to relax. He is the best friend I have ever had. I am so thankful the great lengths God went through to bring us together. I am so proud of how much he has grown in these two years. He has become an even better man than I thought he could be….and he’s not done growing yet! His humility knocks down my pride (which I never knew I struggled with!) Bret, thank you, for being you and loving me for me.

UPDATE!

This wonderful blog is now a .com! I am so excited! If you have us bookmarked, the old address will take you to the new address, but just in case, here’s the updated address!

Day 729 – Anniversary Celebration

Today we went to my parents’ to celebrate our anniversary (which is tomorrow). We just bought those reflectors yesterday and decided to test them out on my siblings. This first one is with the new flash diffuser.

These next bunch were taken with a gold and sometimes a silver reflector. I LOVE the gold/sunsety goodness feel behind Jo in this first one! What’s even better is that it was taken at 3! I can’t wait to play more with these reflectors! I also can’t wait to use them on brides! Ah! : )

She was a trooper, that’s a lot of light in your eye!!

Gretchen even got in on the fun!

Then Jon and I finished a Lego model that has been sitting around for AGES! I love Legos. 🙂
