Day 3277 – Ten Years Ago Today, I Got The Best Phone Call Ever

It was the middle of the night and I received a call. Bret and I had been dating for just over a year. At the time, he had asked me to not call for a few days because he wanted to think about some things. Basically – should we get married or not. When he called that night, I’m not sure I was expecting the question, I was just thankful for a call. It’s not the normal way of things – getting a proposal over the phone, but I love that it is the way we went about things.

The past ten years have taken us to places I never expected or planned to go, but there is no other dance partner I would rather have in this crazy dance.

Happy proposal day B, I’m so glad you asked me the question and I’m so glad I said yes.

Day 3249 – Fifth Closing Celebration Meal And Major Growth

We closed our fifth deal with our real estate investing business on Thursday. It was all around one of the most fulfilling deals we’ve done because I got to be a part of more steps than I normally am (meeting with clients, going to the actual closing, etc), and it was a family that was so thankful we were able to help them. After everything was done with closing, we decided to go to El Salto for the celebration meal. While in the parking lot, Bret said something that was so powerful and such a testament to how much we’ve both grown. He said, “order whatever you want, we can afford it.” For so many years of our marriage, those little words “we can’t afford it” have been peppered through our conversations. How you think about things has such an impact on how your life plays out. We have both done so much work in changing our mindsets about things and to see it come out of our minds was so rewarding.

I took Bret at his word and ordered a whole bunch of stuff! I got all the dip options, extra cheese, and I supremed my meal.

Day 3224 – How To Celebrate When You’re A Recovered Alcoholic

I have been sober for 3.61 years, 1318 days, but I still have struggles about some aspects of sobriety. One thing that I loved about drinking was celebrating. Having a cold beer on a warm day, enjoying wine on a porch, or champagne for big celebrations. There is a feeling of “missing out” on these things. I definitely have “I wish I didn’t have a problem with this, because I would love to drink this or that in this moment.”

I understand this is my choice to not drink. I understand I miss out on things because of it. I understand I’m in the minority. So when there are companies that put out quality non-alcoholic drinks, I feel seen, cared for, and appreciated.

Last week, I made a big commitment to myself and a new project. I am so proud of myself and wanted to celebrate. I went to a local grocery store, and happened upon their non-alcoholic drinks. I have to say, the Fre company is really on point with their drinks. They happened to have a Brut Sparkling alcohol removed wine/champagne.

Because someone, somewhere, thought of a person like me, in a unique situation, I was able to pop the cork, and drink the bubbly. What’s even better is that it’s lasted a few days, so even now, it’s fizzy….as I drink it out of the bottle.

Sober friends, have you ever had any of these drinks?

I love celebrating the day I met Bret. It was a crazy night…which was really the best way to start our crazy journey. It’s been a very awesome, very fun 11 years.

Day 3136 – Having Goals And Meeting Them – or – James Joyce Celebration

One thing Bret and I have been doing is setting rewards for different successes. One of Bret’s was to go to James Joyce when he closed a deal. He has a wall of photos of things he’s working towards. Things like Disney World, trips, a new home, etc. A few weeks back, we were able to fulfill the goal of James Joyce! It is such a fun restaurant with delicious food. I’m going to print out the photo of us there so Bret can replace it on his wall as something he HAS done.
