Day 3416 – The Biggest Part Of Meeting Your Personal Goals

After a very successful run this morning, I thought, you know, meeting my goals with running all comes down to this – I don’t care what anyone says I should be doing, whether distance, time, whatever – I care if I am doing better today than myself yesterday, last week, or last year.

I think that right there is the biggest part of meeting your personal goals – compare success against your past self. Whatever your goal might be, don’t look at someone else’s plan, look at yourself. Whether it’s running more or reading more or whatever – you define your success.

Day 3415 – Where I Wanna Be Today

I’m not one to complain. I really do try to enjoy whatever I’m going through and if it’s hard (i.e. complain worthy) I try to keep it to myself.

I am SO thankful for everything we’re working on and the abundance of work. I can see how the harder things are stretching us and challenging us to be better.

But all that to also say, I really wish I was here today. 🙂

Day 3414 – Snow Day!!!!!

Wahhhoooooo! We got a snow day friends! I did everything necessary to ensure this snow day came to pass – from inside out/backwards PJs to a spoon under my pillow. What’s funny is that a snow day for us means more time to work. But I’m sure we’ll have some fun thrown in.

East coast friends, how are you spending the snow day?

Note – this photo is old and we didn’t get THAT much snow. 🙂

Day 3413 – How A Song You’ve Heard Thousands Of Times Can Have A New Meaning

As I was running today, listening to Firebreather by Thrice (my running song of choice), I was struck by a new thought. Here are a few lines from the song, you can read the full lyrics here.

Tell me, Are you free
When the fear falls on you?
Tell me, Are you free
When the fear falls on you?

The song was written about Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who spoke up about the injustices he saw in Nazi Germany. It has always resonated with me.

It has always been about someone who is killed for their belief. That belief has always been Christianity in my mind.

But this morning, as I was mid-run, it struck me that it can also be about speaking up about things that others shy away from for whatever reason. It brought me comfort to know that I rarely shy away from speaking up about things.

It gave me fresh encouragement to share that it’s OK to not drink, that you can have a full and wonderful and FUN life without alcohol.

That it’s ok to not have kids.

That it’s ok to sleep on the floor.

That it’s ok to not have furniture in the “normal” sense.

To shout from my little blog rooftop, that it’s ok if you are different from most of those around you. It’s ok if most people think you’re crazy. To remind you that there ARE others out there who think and feel like you do.

It may take time to find them, but I assure you, they are out there.

Day 3412 – How To Make Your Sober Friend Feel Special

Sometimes one of the harder things about not drinking anymore is that I don’t get to order fun and fancy drinks. It’s a totally silly little thing, and it’s not something I dwell on often.

But sometimes, I go to a restaurant that has a really cool drink….for me…..a non-drinker. I was so thankful that Olive Garden has such a wide variety of non-alcoholic drinks. I felt special and important. It’s a little thing, but it means so much to me.
