About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 1495 – Exciting Day And Exciting News

If you’ve been keeping up with my FB posts or blog posts…(And it’s a little scary how many of you do!)…you know it’s been a SUPER crazy busy few weeks.

Between shooting a wedding, attending Wedding Wire World, attending The Next Big Buzz AND going on vacation. I cannot put into words how full my brain has been!

When I got home from vacation, I was all ready to jump in and implement everything I learned. Well, that didn’t happen. It’s been a tough week so far! Between feeling a little under the weather…or under the pollen?…and just feeling completely run down (what is that with vacation by the way?)….I haven’t been as productive as I KNOW I can be.

Today, I was still a little slower getting started and really just dragging my feet….again.

So, this morning in my devos, I prayed “Give me the fire back. Help me to glorify You today.”

My day was still dragging a little bit after that, so I sat down to watch a video from the good folks at Book More Brides. They are running a summit this week to help wedding vendors take their businesses to the next level. I was doing some admin work, time draining work and figured I might as well listen to something productive. I ended up listening to “The Niche Profit Formula: How to Double Your Price and Still Book Solid” by Mike Allebach of Allebach Photography, aka The Original Tattooed Bride Photographer. I’ve followed him on Facebook for a while and am on a few of his email lists. It was an AMAZING presentation and really helped me to connect a few dots that came up at Mara’s event last week.

That was first….after the presentation, through a series of events, he featured me on his page and friended me on Facebook!

AND DURING the presentation, I got an inquiry for next year!

What a way for God to answer my prayer! And so quickly too!

I also want to just say how proud I am of my husband! He is starting his LAST semester in college on Friday! I can’t believe he’s already at this point! In a lot of ways the last 4 years flew by, but they were also tough. I am amazed at how hard Bret has worked. Love ya darlin’

Day 1491 – How Running A Business Is Like A Puzzle

Yesterday, we found some puzzles and games in a closet of the cabin. The puzzle we chose was actually a Springbok puzzle! My favorite brand of puzzle!

Anyways, we dumped it out on the table and I fully expected it would be a quick puzzle.

But then, we realized this was not going to be an easy puzzle. It hit me at that point how putting a puzzle together is a lot like running a business OR a dealing with a problem in general.

1. When you get overwhelmed, put everything on the table. (I spread out all of the pieces, face up)
2. Start by going for something small. (I did all of the blue sky first)
3. Take breaks when you get a little stressed. (I gave up like 5 times)
4. Get some help from friends and family. (So we took turns)

5. Don’t give up. (You can’t play a game until the table is cleared)
6. If you work hard, get a little help from your friends, you can accomplish big things…even if it’s a 700 piece puzzle.
