About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 1740 – How Do I Post Everyday? – or – How Do I Know What To Blog About?

One of the questions I hear most often about my blog is “How can you blog EVERY SINGLE DAY?”

I’m going to be honest with you, sometimes it really sucks. There are days I have NO idea what to blog about.

But most days, here is my thought process.

1. Is today an anniversary of a previous client? (I keep track of these with Outlook reminders)
2. Do I have a recent session to blog?
3. Did I do something fun with Bret today or in the past few days?
4. Did I learn a lesson today?
5. Is today a significant date?

If I can’t come up with something by going through that list, I look through my previous years/days. Sometimes I try to find something I did on that day a year or more ago. Sometimes this leads to a “wow, look how far I’ve come” or a “wow, I really need to work on that!” Sometimes it’s a fun reminder.

Sometimes I look back over my recent blog posts to see if I can add to something I already posted about.

All in all, it’s a systematic process AND a haphazard process….much like my brain. πŸ˜‰

What about you? Do you blog daily? What is your process?

Day 1739 – My Reading Obession – or – What I’m Reading Now – or – Goodreads Is Awesome

I had heard about this app/website a few times…seen my friends post reviews…but I never signed up for it. It wasn’t until I had coffee with a friend that I finally got on the ball. Seriously Jen, why did you wait???

What I’m talking about is Goodreads. It’s basically a super convenient way to keep track of what you’re reading and to get recommendations on what to read next. You can also see what your friends are reading at the moment too. It’s opened up a whole new world to me!

It also puts out there how much I’ve been reading these days! I currently only have 9 books in my “currently reading” shelf….but I’m actually reading about 5-10 more, with about 10 in the queue to start! But, regardless, it’s a wonderful tool for me to keep track of where I am in the books, which is great if I have to return a book to the library.

Here’s what I’m reading now! What’s funny is that it actually cut off 3-5 more!

Day 1738 – Bret’s On Spring Break!! Wooo Hoo!!

This week Bret is on spring break! I am so excited! While he is doing some work while he’s off, it does mean we get to spend more time than normal together! Today, it was so nice out, we were just chillin’ on a swing. This then turned into an hour nap! It was freakin’ glorious! Man I wish this was our daily life! But for now, I will very much enjoy this week!!
