About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 1838 – The Secret To Productivity

So what’s the secret to productivity?

Go by how you feel that day. That’s it. Right there. Take the day as it comes at you and work from there.

I can sometimes be a night owl. Staying up until 2 a.m….3 a.m….etc. I can write like crazy, edit like crazy, whatever. The world is asleep but I am awake. I can achieve more in a few hours than a whole day of work.

I can sometimes be a morning person. Getting up at 4:30 a.m. Knocking out almost my whole to-do list before 9 a.m. (and that’s only because some place aren’t open until 8:30/9).

It all depends on the day.

This morning, I got up at 4:30…Bret teaches an early class on Wednesday mornings. He has to get up between 3:45 and 4. Most mornings, I’ll say my goodbyes and go back to sleep. This morning, I sat up for some reason, and knew that was it. I got up, saw him off and got to work. Today, I am a morning person and it’s wonderful. The to-do list is almost done. Now I can focus on reading and tasks on my list that aren’t priority. It’s an amazing feeling.

What’s funny, is in a day or two, I’ll be a night owl and laughing at myself for getting up so early. πŸ™‚

Day 1836 – A Sort Of New Dream

You may have read a few days ago about a life changing/affirming book I am reading (4 hour work week). One of the things I realized while reading was how much I’ve been wanting to write a book. Since then, it has morphed to about 3-4 book ideas. Years back when I was in college, I took creative writing. One of the requirements was to journal a few times a week, noting things we saw in our day that struck us. Two of my favorite personal works (a short story and a poem) came out of those journal entries. So, I decided to go on a date with myself, grab some food and make a purchase of a new journal. I found the PERFECT one! It has a little pocket in the back AND I found a little pen that fits in the pocket. Said journal fits in my purse! Now it will be with me wherever I go. I’m so excited to start writing again. I’ve already had a late night/have to get out of bed RIGHT NOW experience. I almost had one last night, but was so tired. When I have ideas while falling asleep, I just pray that God would remind me of them the next day if it was a good idea. Thankfully, I remembered my idea when I woke up. πŸ™‚
