About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 1841 – Nine Ways To Survive Your Wedding In The Heat Of The Summer

How do you survive a summer wedding? It’s hot, your guests are hot, what do you do?

1. Rent an ice cream truck for the cocktail hour.
2. Have your programs printed on a fan.
3. Know where the sun will be at key points during your day. If you’re having an outdoor ceremony, make sure you AND your guests will be in the shade. We did NOT do this! I still look at the pictures and think, doh, sorry guys!
4. Have some water bottle fans for the kids…and wedding party.
5. Anywhere your guests will be outdoors, have ice water available.
6. Make sure the invitation is clear if guests will be outdoors.
7. Make sure you take your formals in a cool/shaded area (or even before the ceremony!)
8. Remember to have fun.
9. Don’t have your wedding in the summer. πŸ˜‰

Day 1840 – Wedding Music That Rocks, That Your Grandmother Will Love And Your Friends Will Too

A while back, a DJ friend of mine (Frank of Friendly Entertainment) suggested that I check out a quartet when I asked for some good “wedding music” recommendations (I wanted to listen to wedding music while I edited). That quartet was Vitamin String Quartet. I found a few of their songs on Spotify (maybe 30-40). I’ve enjoyed listening to them pretty much every day since then. Today, I did a search to add more to my playlist….holy smokes was I surprised!!! They have put out like 78 albums. SEVENTY EIGHT! They do covers of popular songs….like, all of them. You can hear anything from Thrift Shop to Hey There Delilah to songs from The Hunger Games to Ozzy to The Beatles to Amy Winehouse to whatever! It’s SO much fun to listen to.

AND it’s a great addition to your wedding music! Check with your DJ to see if they have any on their playlist. It’s a great way to give a shout out to your favorite musicians, to make your wedding personal but still keep everyone happy.

Since I don’t have a picture of them performing (yet), here’s one of my favorite cello shots from a wedding!

Day 1839 – Make Your Pie And Eat It Too…And Blueberry Crumble…

Yesterday, I had a random idea. I have NO idea where it came from, seriously, it was not a “Jennilyn” kind of thought. Anyways, I thought, my my, wouldn’t it be fun to go to an orchard and pick some fruit….and then, make a pie! This is not me AT ALL. I don’t really eat desserts, except on the rare occasion. I further don’t eat fruit desserts.

I grabbed my hubby and we made our way to Shaw’s Orchard.

We ended up picking 2 lbs of blueberries! Yummmy!!!

We also bought a ton of peaches and some other goodies at the stand/store when we were done.

After we got home, I made a blueberry crumble AND a peach pie. I still can’t get over the fact that I did this….AND that they both turned out pretty dang good! So if you have a random idea of something fun to do today, go do it! πŸ™‚
