About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 2414 – Awesome Marketing Disney!

Today, Disneyland shared this status on their Facebook page – “In celebration of the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration, Disney Parks will donate $5 to Make-A-Wish – up to $1 million – for every ‘ear photo’ you share on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #ShareYourEars”

Being a big fan of Disney and having my own ears (one of the few things I own that has my name on it! Jennilyn isn’t exactly an easy one to find at a souvenir shop.) I promptly snapped a selfie and posted it on Instagram. When I went on Instagram later to post for my clients, I noticed that “ShareYourEars” was trending. It struck me that it was a brilliant marketing strategy. A bajillion people will share pictures. It’s a great cause. It’s an easy thing to do. People will look at other photos under the hashtag. Now all those people are looking at Disney ears and thinking about Disney. Probably remembering when they got the ears or a great memory from Disney. I know I did. As I was typing about getting my name on something, I remembered riding the teacups while I waited for my hat to be stitched. I remembered how special I felt, having something that everyone else had but with my name on it. As someone who rarely gets that, it’s a nice memory and feeling for me.

Anyways, I just had to share this! I’m sure they hit 200,000 shares by now, but if not, give it a share.

lol, it is also a lesson about how little control we have over hashtags….unfortunately, the highlighted image is something that is totally NOT Disney ears. Good lesson to remember when trying to use a brand hashtag.

Day 2413 – Excerpt From My Book

Writing a book has been quite a journey. Some days…er….weeks…er…months…I barely do anything. I’m in a bit of a holding pattern right now with the book for a number of reasons. Since I’m asked pretty regularly how the book is going, I figured I’d share an excerpt with my current concept. I’d love to know your thoughts. Please be super honest. 🙂

~~~~~~~~~~~
In all toil there is profit, but mere talk tends only to poverty.” Proverbs 14:23
In All Toil
Toil is a very active work word. It’s not one of those “fluffy” work words like “brainstorming” or “consulting.” It gives us a sense of someone dripping sweat, dirty, gritty and certainly not wasting time.
There is profit
I love that promise. Even if my work feels fruitless, there is profit. Even if I’m just learning from my mistakes. There is a reward for following the rules – such as a great promise.
Mere talk tends only to poverty
This one hits so close to home for me. I am a big dreamer. I can come up with dozens of new dreams and ideas. But when it comes to the implementing, I feel like a lot doesn’t get done. God is telling us that not working will lead to poverty. How’s that for motivation?
Reflection
Are there areas where you ARE toiling? Are you doing well with this? In what areas are you not taking action? In what areas are you just talking?
