Day 3420 – I Really Am Thankful For Traffic Jams – repost

Today, I had bible study in the morning in Joppa Maryland and then had to drive all the way over to Hunt Valley to grab lunch with my family. It was raining a little, so I wasn’t sure how timely I’d be….and I actually got stuck in a traffic jam about half way.

A little backstory….you may or may not know the full story of how Bret and I met….well, I won’t share that now (you can ask me later)….but a BIG part of the story is that on his drive from Quantico, VA (where he was for training) to Bel Air, MD (where I was), he wanted to turn around. It is a long drive. But then he looks over to the other side of 95 and there was a parking lot of traffic for about 10 minutes….and he said, ah, guess I’ll still go.

I try to remember this whenever I’m in traffic….and think….someone’s life may be changed forever because of this traffic jam….this is where I am now and I have to just deal with it.

While I was sitting there, in the traffic, I thought about it again….and I said, you know, I am content to sit in this traffic….and I realized that I truly meant it. It was so moving, it made me cry.

So, I challenge you to think about situations in your life that are like a traffic jam….they may be happening for a bigger purpose. But if not, you can grumble about me and traffic next time you hit a jam.

The following picture is about 4 months after I met Bret…who I met because of a traffic jam….and a friend who knew us both better than we knew ourselves.

Day 3162 – I Really Am Thankful For Traffic Jams – repost

As I’m gearing up for my solo-cation (I leave TOMORROW!) I’m thinking about potential traffic I’ll run into (don’t worry, I’ll share all about where I’m going after the fact). I’m hoping to leave right after I drop off Bret at school, so I’ll be hitting traffic somewhere, I’m sure. I truly think about the following story most times I’m traffic (especially on I-95, which is the road Bret was on).

Day 2862 – How Traffic Reminds Me How Good I Have It

Yesterday, I was doing some errands and got stuck in just awful traffic. It was rainy, and close to rush hour. When I finally got home, I was just so thankful for my current work situations. I love working from home, and having so much flexibility. I’m so thankful for my amazing clients, and the opportunities I’ve been presented. It takes a different type of work, it’s still hard in some ways, and it takes more planning, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Traffic always seems to remind me to be thankful (take a walk down memory lane with this post).

What stressful thing are you thankful for today?

Day 2539 – Road Trip Part 1 – Baltimore to Philly to PA to Chicago

On Friday, we started the first leg of our journey across the country. Our first stop was a concert in Philly with friends. This drive should only take about an hour and a half without traffic, that day, it took us about 3 hours. Oy. I was not happy.

So, after a rough start, we decided to give up driving all together. Thanks to our friends, we got to quit….at least for a few hours. 🙂

Then we rocked out to our favs – Thrice. What a great show! Both of us were in the pit most of the show.

But then I decided to move to the front. Dudes, it’s more intense up there than the pit! But I got some great photos!

It was a really cool venue!!

After the show, we drove back to our friends’ house. Ok, these two are some of our favorite people. Kenny and Naomi have been instrumental in our relationship and marriage. They are never afraid to ask hard questions and be encouraging. AND they are very hospitable! These two cut up mangoes and heated up chili at ONE in the morning…AFTER letting us take showers. It was a great start to our trip! We love you guys!!

We drove through the night, both of us drove and got a chance to sleep a bit. We were pretty energized the next morning!

IMG_3043

Ok, well, I was at least. 🙂

Then we stopped for breakfast/lunch near the other side of PA. I’m really glad we did sandwiches in the cooler! It was a great way to save money, an easy fix and quite delicious.

We made it to Chicago in the evening on Saturday. There were lots of fun things to see!

We, of course, had to have a deep dish pizza in Chicago!

On our way to the car, we saw this outdoor concert! Pretty nifty!
