Since I’ve known Bret, he’s always been pretty frugal. Being married to this great guy has helped me to be pretty frugal too. I may have mentioned that we both went like 5 years without buying new jeans. This has helped us to pay off a huge amount of debt and live within our means. I am SO thankful for this side of us. I pray that when we do have more money, we’ll keep this frugal attitude (How To Be Rich has been VERY helpful in preparing me for that).
That being said, he does love to spoil me. Now that there is a bit more breathing room in our budget, we’ve been able to go out to eat a time or two more than normal. We’ve also had a few gift cards/coupons to help with that. (Sidenote: gift cards really are a GREAT gift! They have allowed us to get to the movies and dinners we would never have gone to!) Sometimes, if I’d like to go out, I make jokes/comments…really not expecting for him to say yes. Last night while driving home late, I made a comment about going to TGIFridays…since it is almost our 7 years knowing each other anniversary….and we met at TGIFridays…specifically the one I was suggesting.
Well, he said yes! 🙂 I mentioned that he wouldn’t have to do anything for our 7 year anniversary now….but….I think we’ll still do something. 🙂
We each had a drink and an entree (thanks to a coupon!) So much fun!
Today marks the 6 year anniversary of meeting Bret. I can’t believe it’s been that long already. I love that I’ve known him almost as long as I’ve been shooting weddings. What a crazy dance it’s been so far!
So, here’s a little bit more about how we met…I know I keep hinting at this….I may never tell the full story online…we will always tell it in person…if asked. I love when people ask how we met…we give each other “that look” that says, are we telling the full story or the partial story? Well, today you’re getting the partial story. 😉
My dear friend (and one of my grooms) Dan mentioned he had a guy friend he thought I might like. So, we set up a blind date. Now, at this time, Bret was still living in California and was still in the Marines. He just happened to be in Virginia for some training in February of 2007. We met at the TGIFridays in Bel Air that crazy night. It was THE most awkward date I’ve ever had! AND I’m not going to lie to you, dear readers, when I first saw him, I was disappointed. My initial reaction was “Oh…that’s him??” And honestly, his reaction was pretty similar to mine. We did enjoy talking to each other though, so we exchanged numbers and the rest is history.
We don’t normally do much for this anniversary, but this year, we’re grabbing dinner AT TGIFridays!
I did not get a picture today…but our evening was spent having dinner with our clients John and Jennifer who are getting married in August.
We actually had dinner at the TGIFriday’s Bret and I met in! We got to split a Guinness milkshake too….dude, it doesn’t sound great, but it was AMAZING!
