Day 3271 – Quick Trip To The Beach

We had an appointment in Deleware yesterday and it was super close to the beach. We thought this is the perfect time to catch the sunrise and all you can eat crabs from On The Bay Seafood. So we went to sleep a little earlier than normal (8:18) and woke up around 1 a.m. We still did part of our morning routines and got on the road.

The drive down was a wonderful time chatting about our dreams, our work, our growth, our mindset, and our summer. Even after being together for over eleven years, and almost married for nine years, I love talking to this guy. Marriage secret – talk to your spouse about EVERYTHING. It really does make a difference.

We caught the sunrise at Bethany Beach and it was just lovely.

Of course, we had to get our joy face selfie.

After that, we spent a few hours on the beach reading and relaxing.

We had an appointment that morning and then made our way down to Ocean City for crabs.

The drive back was a little slow, but not unbearable (as is sometimes the case driving back from the beach on a Sunday). When we arrived at our exit, Bret noticed a guy getting out of his car to take a picture. We turned around and there was a stunning double rainbow. We pulled over and took some photos ourselves. It was the perfect end to a wonderful day….even if we were awake about 20 hours. 😀

Day 3145 – Where I Want To Be Today…

On this day last year, we were enjoying a sunrise at the beach. We ended up getting a hotel that night. It was such a nice surprise, and honestly, one of THE best trips we have ever taken. It was so nice waking up with the ocean as a background, and sun cast across the bed. One of my big goals is to have an oceanfront condo so I can enjoy it as often as I want. My soul is totally alive at the beach.

Where does your soul come alive?

Day 3061 – How Much It Costs To Go To Ocean City, Maryland For Thanksgiving

I ran across a great deal for a hotel in Ocean City over Thanksgiving, and we decided to take the trip! I so glad we did, it was such a relaxing time, and there were so few people there. I didn’t realize it when booking the hotel, but we were within walking distance of a pretty highly rated Thanksgiving day buffet. It was surprisingly affordable to go to the beach for a few days, even during a holiday. Here is what we spent.

Hotel – Grand Hotel & Spa – 2 nights – $187.28 ($93.64 a night with taxes and fees), normally anywhere from $179-$249. Bonus tip for today and tomorrow, they’re having a 50% off sale for Cyber Monday. Make sure you click on View By Rate Offer in your search.
Gas – $18.25
Coffee – drive down – $1.79
Drinks for Bret – $17.43
Five Guys – drive down – $30.79
Bread and apple butter – $17.56
Aldi groceries – $19.27
Thanksgiving buffet at Ember’s – $63.10
Hardee’s – drive back – $5.30
Coffee and treats at hotel – $13.24

Total spent – $374.01

A few notes – we could have saved some money not going to Five Guys on the way down, but after sitting in traffic for 2 hours, we needed a treat. Oy, traffic was bad. Four hours to get to the beach, 2.5 hours to get back. Crazy. The bread and apple butter was a splurge a few days before we left. I had a sample of it and it was just so amazingly good, I HAD to get it! We probably could have walked to a Dunkin a few blocks away for coffee, and we didn’t need to get more specialty drinks, but our attitude was more – we’re here to relax and not run around. We had enough food to eat while we were down there. I do wish I had known how great of a deal Hardee’s had – I got two sandwiches, a cookie, fries, and a drink for 5 bucks. There’s a Hardee’s close to where we got Five Guys, so that would have saved us about $20. We could have done a different buffet, but I mean, how can you go wrong with one within walking distance? Next time, I will bring my own coffee and filters, in the off chance we have a full coffee pot like we did in our room. That would have saved a bit, and I would have had better coffee! Ha.

All in all, it was an amazing time. Neither of us worked, we just relaxed, watched TV (boy howdy, we do NOT miss TV), I read a whole book, and read some others. We watched the sunrise from the comfort of our room (which is such a better experience than waking up at 2 am to drive down). The buffet was delicious, and I totally over indulged on desserts.

Do you ever travel for Thanksgiving?

Day 2782 – So What Did We Do On Our Adventure Weekend? – Trip To Ocean City Maryland

Oh my goodness, what an amazing weekend! I will share a post in the next few days about my thoughts on travel and why people can’t afford to travel. I’m realizing more and more that I’m extremely passionate about this.

As I mentioned, this past Thursday was the ten year anniversary of meeting Bret. I told him in the weeks leading up to the day that this was an important day to me. He mentioned spending about $200 to celebrate…whether it was going away or just doing a bunch of fun things. Here’s how we ended up spending that (and some more).

On Friday, we signed the lease to our new home. Can’t wait to move! Our new landlords are super cool and we have had long conversations with them already.

While we were talking, my stomach made the loudest, craziest growl it has ever made. I seriously thought it was their dog at first. Ha! So, we grabbed dinner after.

I finally tried the Taco Bell Naked Chicken Chalupa. So freakin good! Had a kick I wasn’t expecting but really enjoyed.

We always pass this kabob food truck and say we gotta try that some day! Well, Friday was someday. Also super delicious.

img_5553

On Saturday, we decided to cash in some free movie tickets to see Lego Batman. Dude, it was SO funny. I highly recommend it!

After the movie, we wandered around in a Wholefoods. My first time. Holy cow do they have their presentation down! Good looking produce. And hilarious produce. How cute are these Pee Wee potatoes?

If you’ve followed our blog for a while, you know we love to drive to the beach (Ocean City, Maryland) in the middle of the night and watch the sunrise. We left a little later than we would’ve liked, but we still arrived in time for the sunrise. Boy howdy, we were NOT disappointed! With the clouds, it was a stunning sunrise.

img_5563

The great thing about watching the sunrise in the winter is free parking at the inlet and not many people. Oh yea, we brought our chairs! Very comfy sunrise watching, for sure!

While we were watching, someone walked by and said their was a seal down the beach. We walked down and checked it out.

After the sun was up, our stomachs were growling for food. So off we walked down the boardwalk. Remember, this is February and a Sunday….soooooo, nothing was open! We walked all the way up to 7th street and cut down to find something! We finally found a cute little spot, Sorianos. It was so nice to find someplace open!

img_5614

The food was amazing, and the sausage was some of the tastiest I’ve ever had. Nom. Nom. Nom.

img_5616

After our bellies were full and our bladders were empty, we walked back to the beach with chairs, blankets, and books in tow. We spent hours reading and chatting. It was absolutely wonderful.

img_5617

When we walked back to our car, we were surprised to see how many people had arrived. Thankfully, this meant there were some smart business owners who were open. I was craving some fries, but was discouraged to see the line for Thrasher’s. Dude, I would estimate at least 100-200 people in line. WAHHHHH? We did NOT wait in line, and kept walking. We were happy to find Polock Johnny’s and enjoyed cheese fries and fried Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. So. Freakin. Good.

img_5624

At this point, we started thinking about where to stay the night. We walked WAYYYYY up the boardwalk and back down the inlet, looking at hotels, looking at availability and figuring our the best place to stay. We drove up and down Coastal Highway, Bret searching while I pointed out places. We finally ended up at a Quality Inn within walking distance to Burger King, grabbed some dinner and settled in for a relaxing evening. We even jumped in the ocean! Oh man, it HURT, but we did it. Then we jumped in the indoor pool and spent some time in the sauna. Soooooo relaxing. The rest of the evening was spent reading and chatting.

img_5631

We slept with the door open all night and enjoyed the sound of the waves. We even got to see the sunrise from our bed. It was a much shorter commute to watch the sunrise that morning!

img_5662

It was such a great weekend. So very relaxing but it also put fuel to the fire of our dreams of more travel and enjoying life. Check back for my thoughts on why you can’t afford to travel!
