Day 2596 – Splurging On Post It Notes And Actually Printing Your Photos

I absolutely adore office supplies. Back to school is a very dangerous time for me. All of those supplies on sale and some things for a penny! Ah! I have to avoid the stores sometimes.

Yesterday, I realized I only had one color in my 3×3 post it note supply. My friends, this is no good. I’ve come to realize that it does make a difference in the type and color of your post it notes. I’ve gotten generic and budget friendly post it notes (and other office supplies too) and they just fail me. They tend to be flimsy and don’t stick.

I have no shame in admitting I spent a good 10 minutes looking at post it notes. I contemplated deep questions like – “will these colors make me happy?” “Will I work harder with these colors?”

I ended up with these 5 beautiful colors. 🙂

Another thing I did recently, was actually print a photo from our trip. Yes, that’s right, I printed a photo less than a month after it was taken! I love being able to look up from my desk and see it. Dudes, this sucker is a foot by 4 feet!

Day 2594 – The Last Hurrah Of Summer! or The BEST All You Can Eat Crab House In Ocean City Maryland

Today Bret starts back to work, so we decided to squeeze in one last trip yesterday. Since we’ve been home from our road trip, we haven’t gone out to eat….at all. We were discussing how we haven’t had steamed crabs at all this year and Bret said he really wanted me to at least have some. I did some searching around us but the best all you can eat crab place is On The Bay Seafood on 42nd street in Ocean City, Maryland. We also still have our National Parks pass, which means we can get into Assateague Island. We also LOVE getting up early to watch the sunrise at the beach.

We left our place around 2:30 a.m. yesterday morning. Living where we do now, we’re only 2 and a half hours from the beach. As we were driving down, there was a little bit of rain and I started to worry we were making a really long drive and would get a disappointing sunrise. Thankfully, that was not the case. The sunrise was utterly amazing. I would say in my top ten for looks.

We got to watch the sunrise with some ponies too!

Now, unfortunately, we were absolutely attacked by black flies. I think we were only on the beach for about 5-10 minutes. We walked out, grabbed a few pictures, walked and scratched, grabbed a pony sunrise shot, walked and scratched and left. Horrible. lol, I will NEVER forget bugspray at this beach again! It is not an exaggeration that we probably had several hundred bites between us. Bret counted 20 on ONE of my feet. ::shudder::

So we drove on and hoped to find another spot. Thankfully, we found a parking lot and got to watch it rise over a bay. No black flies here. Ahhh.

After the sunrise, we drove to Ocean City for breakfast. We ended up at a Dunkin (surprise, surprise) on the boardwalk. After about an hour, we decided to check out Berlin (where Runaway Bride was filmed). We found a parking lot in the shade and spent a few hours reading and relaxing.

Afterwards, we drove back to OC to our FAVORITE all you can eat crab place. Seriously, we love going here! Such great presentation on our first tray!

I don’t know of another place that offers this, but On The Bay Seafood has outdoor seating and the floor is filled with sand. I can eat crabs, have my bare feet in the sand and listen to Jimmy Buffett and The Beach Boys? Be still my heart. Oh and the crabs are absolutely amazing.

Before we left to come home, Bret took a minute to talk to the owner/manager. He thanked her for such a great experience and restaurant. He said we come to Ocean City for two reasons, to watch the sunrise and come here. At this point, she gave HIM a gift (see below)!

What a great day!

Day 2589 – When A Lama Is Your Spirit Animal – Or – Review Of Virginia Safari Park

Last summer, we visited the Virginia Safari Park in Natural Bridge, Virginia. It’s funny, whenever I’m struggling to think of what to blog about, I almost always stop at the pictures from the park. Specifically these photos.

I just love the colors and how it shows how much fun we had. Being able to feed the birds was such a great additional interactive thing.

So what is a drive-thru safari? Well, it’s pretty much what you’d think of if you went on an African safari, driving past wildlife in their environment….but you drive your OWN car through! We got to see so many different types of animals on our trip through. We got two buckets of feed and thanks to a friend’s recommendation, we held onto the buckets TIGHT! If you don’t, you’ll lose it. I did really well until near the end. Yep, they took it right out of my hands.

This is a great place to take kids of all ages, but make sure you keep the windows up if your kids get scared or don’t understand that animals can bite. I would say, near the end, we opted to keep our windows up most of the time because the animals got a little greedy.

The price is about $20 per person but there is SO much included with that. Not only do you have 180 acres of drive-thru wildlife to see, there is a petting zoo and a whole host of animals in cages to see. Another bonus is you can go through as many times as you want that day.

And as I mentioned, this lama is my spirit animal. Seriously, it’s like he stole my face.

Have you gone to Virginia Safari Park? Did you love it? Have you been to other drive-thru safaris like this?

Day 2586 – Our Camping Adventures – Including Spiders And Moonings

We absolutely love to camp. There doesn’t seem to be anything more relaxing then sitting by the fire and reading for hours on end. Coming home without a shower and unbrushed teeth for 3 days is like a badge of honor. We don’t mind getting dirty. We don’t mind using a porta-potty for 3 days. But we are big fat babies when it comes to spiders.

Something happened this trip that hasn’t happened before. On the first night, we took a flashlight and were about to do a tag team potty trip. One of us holds the flashlight and the other does their business. Well, upon entering the night time death trap, we noticed a spider. Freaking out, we figured how would we could go without disturbing the spider. We turned and saw another spider that was even bigger than the first. Getting a little terrified, the flashlight fell upon a spider on its web on the front of the throne. It was the biggest spider I’ve seen in the wild. If you make a circle with your index finger and thumb, that’s about how big this guy was. At this point, we both agreed, it was time to pee in the woods.

This trip, I thought we had this circle of the campground to ourselves for the duration. Unfortunately, when we arrived, there was a tent set up across from us. Seriously? The CLOSEST site was booked? Thankfully, they wouldn’t be there the second night. They weren’t at their site all day, which was just fine by us.

Our little trek into spider hell happened well past sunset, about ten. Our neighbors had still not arrived. Thinking we were alone and the coast was clear, I squatted down in the woods. It was somewhat in view of the little road through our loop, but again, not a peep for hours. Wouldn’t you know, as soon as I started to go, a truck made the loop. I think it was a ranger patrol. The flashlight had been turned off, but if they were looking in my direction, they were getting a partial show. I have no idea if they saw anything. I realize that if I am in a situation that requires me to think fast on my feet, I am ill prepared. Seriously Jen, you could have taken the 2 seconds to get into a more lady like position.

The evening had another adventure….at 4 am, our neighbors’ alarm went off….for an hour….*sigh*

But! We slept until 11 (we don’t even do this at home!) and spent a glorious day reading and stinking to high heaven. It’s the life. 🙂

On our way out this morning, we finally stopped at an overlook on the way into the campground. I’m glad I finally stopped.
