Day 3249 – Fifth Closing Celebration Meal And Major Growth

We closed our fifth deal with our real estate investing business on Thursday. It was all around one of the most fulfilling deals we’ve done because I got to be a part of more steps than I normally am (meeting with clients, going to the actual closing, etc), and it was a family that was so thankful we were able to help them. After everything was done with closing, we decided to go to El Salto for the celebration meal. While in the parking lot, Bret said something that was so powerful and such a testament to how much we’ve both grown. He said, “order whatever you want, we can afford it.” For so many years of our marriage, those little words “we can’t afford it” have been peppered through our conversations. How you think about things has such an impact on how your life plays out. We have both done so much work in changing our mindsets about things and to see it come out of our minds was so rewarding.

I took Bret at his word and ordered a whole bunch of stuff! I got all the dip options, extra cheese, and I supremed my meal.

Day 3246 – How Bret Sold His First House And How He Has Been Successful – As Told By His Wife – repost With Updates

I thought today would be an appropriate day to reshare the following post. This afternoon, Bret and I will be going to a closing on our fifth house. It’s crazy how much has changed in us and our business over the last year. Looking back, I’m still not sure why I didn’t jump right in with Bret at the beginning. But now that we’re working together, it’s a perfect marriage (see what I did there?) of our skills. We definitely have found a groove and look forward to rocking out another amazing year.

The following things I noticed in Bret are still true today.

A few days ago, Bret sold his first house as a real estate investor. He has been working towards this for nearly 8 months. I wanted to share what I saw in his life that produced this awesome success.

He didn’t quit – There were many times he could have quit. Many times he could have said, “this is too much work, I’m not getting any results, I’m done.” But he didn’t. He kept working, he kept hustling, he kept growing.

He found a mentor – For years, I’ve noticed a trend among very successful people – they have a mentor. You always hear them say “my mentor said this, my mentor told me to do that.”

He listened to his mentor…eventually – This is a big key to success – actually listening to the one who has been there before you, who knows what you need to do, and ways you need to change. There were many times Bret’s mentor would say, “do this or that,” and Bret would do it….he might not like it, but he would do it…eventually.

He made a schedule, and stuck to it – I saw a big improvement in his business when he made a schedule and created systems in his business, and stuck to them.

He didn’t let successes give him an excuse to not work – There was one night in particular, where Bret had just spent several hours picking up a house. It was late, after midnight, and it would have been so easy to go to bed. It would have been easy to say “I’ll do it tomorrow.” But Bret followed his schedule and put out flyers.

He constantly fed his mind – Bret listened to so many books and podcasts while he worked.

He sacrificed – Bret is not a big drinker. He might have 1-2 beers on a weekend. Once he started with real estate investing, he limited himself to only having a beer at a party or when we hung out with friends. He repeatedly said, I want to wait to get beer until I close a deal. The night he closed his deal, he had two beers. 🙂

We will be celebrating with a mini trip or two away in the coming weeks, but that night we celebrated with Taco Bell and Bret had his beer, finally.

Even though he’s celebrating here, he’s also still working.

Way to go babe, I’m so proud of the success you’ve achieved and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us.

Day 3245 – Finding Bret – or – Having Fun In Marriage

On Monday, I went to the movies to see Solo while Bret ran some errands. I gave him a rough idea of the time I’d be done and when I left the movie, I texted to say I was out. He texted back simply “find me.”

We use the app Life360 to track each other. This is a really useful app since we share a car. Gone are the days of the calls and texts that say “where are you?” or “how much longer will you be?” A quick peek at the app and you have your answer.

So, leaving the theater, I opened my app to find my husband in the expanse of Arundel Mills Mall. While the app is really great, sometimes it’s a little buggy. I’ve noticed this more when we’re indoors. I ended up walking past Bret a few times. I also had my phone on do not disturb, so I didn’t get notifications of his text messages (saying things like “are you even looking at the app?”) I walked a good 10 minutes back and forth. Thankfully, I received this picture.

I was then able to find my husband, who had been hiding in a photo booth. While at first, I was a little agitated, in the end, it was a fun experience. I know he was sitting there laughing at me. The rest of the afternoon was spent eating tasty food and chatting about the movie.

Do you have fun in your marriage like this?

Day 3236 – Sunday Brunch With My B

Yesterday, I had this grand vision of sitting in Atwater’s with Bret and brainstorming with Bret about my new project for hours. Little did I know that Saturday and Sunday there are servers and it’s not the same “sit for a while to work” vibe as during the week. So, we got breakfast and chatted about an upcoming trip.

It was a truly magnificent breakfast, I have to say.

Day 3234 – A Royal Wedding And A Great Way To Spend A Saturday Morning

I, and a good portion of the world, I’d imagine, sit here watching the Royal Wedding. It has been so fun watching all of the tradition, music, and reverence. What struck me as I watched was the seriousness of the ceremony. The words are oft repeated at weddings, but being held in such a place of grandeur, gave the ceremony even more weight. It always warms my heart to see marriage held in such high esteem.

Since I’m obviously not there, I have no pictures to share. But here’s a castle we saw in Kentucky! 😀
