I thought today would be an appropriate day to reshare the following post. This afternoon, Bret and I will be going to a closing on our fifth house. It’s crazy how much has changed in us and our business over the last year. Looking back, I’m still not sure why I didn’t jump right in with Bret at the beginning. But now that we’re working together, it’s a perfect marriage (see what I did there?) of our skills. We definitely have found a groove and look forward to rocking out another amazing year.
The following things I noticed in Bret are still true today.

A few days ago, Bret sold his first house as a real estate investor. He has been working towards this for nearly 8 months. I wanted to share what I saw in his life that produced this awesome success.
He didn’t quit – There were many times he could have quit. Many times he could have said, “this is too much work, I’m not getting any results, I’m done.” But he didn’t. He kept working, he kept hustling, he kept growing.
He found a mentor – For years, I’ve noticed a trend among very successful people – they have a mentor. You always hear them say “my mentor said this, my mentor told me to do that.”
He listened to his mentor…eventually – This is a big key to success – actually listening to the one who has been there before you, who knows what you need to do, and ways you need to change. There were many times Bret’s mentor would say, “do this or that,” and Bret would do it….he might not like it, but he would do it…eventually.
He made a schedule, and stuck to it – I saw a big improvement in his business when he made a schedule and created systems in his business, and stuck to them.
He didn’t let successes give him an excuse to not work – There was one night in particular, where Bret had just spent several hours picking up a house. It was late, after midnight, and it would have been so easy to go to bed. It would have been easy to say “I’ll do it tomorrow.” But Bret followed his schedule and put out flyers.
He constantly fed his mind – Bret listened to so many books and podcasts while he worked.
He sacrificed – Bret is not a big drinker. He might have 1-2 beers on a weekend. Once he started with real estate investing, he limited himself to only having a beer at a party or when we hung out with friends. He repeatedly said, I want to wait to get beer until I close a deal. The night he closed his deal, he had two beers. 🙂
We will be celebrating with a mini trip or two away in the coming weeks, but that night we celebrated with Taco Bell and Bret had his beer, finally.
Even though he’s celebrating here, he’s also still working.
Way to go babe, I’m so proud of the success you’ve achieved and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes us.
