Day 2617 – FIVE Years As A Freelancer…..What??

I cannot believe it has been five years since I’ve worked a “normal” job. What a ride it’s been!

In the last five years, I’ve done the following:
– I photographed 25 weddings
– I closed my photography business
– I started working for two AMAZING photographers
– We moved 3 times
– We drove across the country four times
– Almost finished a book

Thank you all for following along on this journey! Here’s to the next 5 years!

This was taken the day after I left my 9-5 job!

Day 2616 – How To Make Your Dreams Come True

I love to see others follow their dreams. I love hearing of people quitting their full time job to be a small business owner. I love pushing people to fulfill their dreams or at least figure out how to get there.

I have a few new dreams, being a speaker, writing for income, traveling more – to name a few (I am a big dreamer after all). But how do you make these dreams come true? How do you live the life you want to live? Here are a few tips.

– Set a deadline. Whether it’s in a few months or 20 years, put it on the calendar.
– Break down the steps to get there. If you want to write a book, break down how to do it before your goal. Having bite sized steps is super helpful.
– Tell a few trusted people your goal. Pick people who will ask you how it’s going. Pick people who won’t take your excuses as a valid reason you’re not completing your steps.
– When you’re working towards your dream, give it your all. Even if you can only devote 15 minutes a day to writing your book (or whatever), work SO hard in that 15 minutes.
– Realize that your dream may change, or how you get there might change.

Now go do it!

Day 2596 – Splurging On Post It Notes And Actually Printing Your Photos

I absolutely adore office supplies. Back to school is a very dangerous time for me. All of those supplies on sale and some things for a penny! Ah! I have to avoid the stores sometimes.

Yesterday, I realized I only had one color in my 3×3 post it note supply. My friends, this is no good. I’ve come to realize that it does make a difference in the type and color of your post it notes. I’ve gotten generic and budget friendly post it notes (and other office supplies too) and they just fail me. They tend to be flimsy and don’t stick.

I have no shame in admitting I spent a good 10 minutes looking at post it notes. I contemplated deep questions like – “will these colors make me happy?” “Will I work harder with these colors?”

I ended up with these 5 beautiful colors. 🙂

Another thing I did recently, was actually print a photo from our trip. Yes, that’s right, I printed a photo less than a month after it was taken! I love being able to look up from my desk and see it. Dudes, this sucker is a foot by 4 feet!
