Day 2659 – How YOU Can Simplify Your Life! – or – My Recommendations For Simple Living

If you haven’t seen the resources page yet, I wanted to share some of the things we’ve found to be helpful in living a simple life here!

Please note: these are affiliate links. All that means is if you buy one of them, we get a small percentage. But I ONLY share things I have personally read, used and stand 100% behind. I love giving recommendations to people. I love to see people succeed, make changes and grow in their lives. So go, grow! 🙂

Simplicity in Marriage

When Sinners Say “I Do”gave us some amazing advice and really helped prepare us for the journey ahead. The biggest thing that stood out to me is admitting to your spouse “I’m a big fat sinner.” Nearly eight years later and we still say this to each other, especially after a big argument. It basically means realizing that you are not a perfect person, you never will be and come into the marriage totally messed up.

Simplicity in Travel

Luckies of London The United States of America Scratch Map (USLUKUS)is such a fun way for us to keep track of where we’ve traveled in the country together! One of the first things I do after we get home from a road trip is update our map!

Simplicity in Business

Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less totally changed my life. Even though we were already pretty simplified and minimalists, this book helped me to dig even deeper into simplicity. It helps me to say no to things that need to be said no to.

Die Empty: Unleash Your Best Work Every Day was a great reminder that work isn’t just about your 9-5 but “any value we create that requires us to spend our time, focus and energy is work, humans, it seems are wired to find satisfaction by adding value through toil.”

Getting There: A Book of Mentors What I loved about this book was the varied fields and methods of work shared. It felt like I sat down with each of these successful people and learned some of their secret tips.

Day 2635 – Perks Of The Job Today….Nap Time

I love having a flexible schedule. I also love after a night of barely sleeping (seriously, I have almost zero memory of sleep), I could drop off Bret and come home and take a nap. I’m obviously a little mixed up since I’m at my desk 3 hours later than normal, but hey, maybe my body is just operating on PST today. 🙂

Day 2631 – What Do You Want? (Tell Me What You Really Really Want) ;)

Ok friends! I need your help. I love this blog, I love sharing my heart and thoughts on simplicity in marriage, life, Christianity, travel and business. It’s crazy how it’s changed over the years….it’s crazy how I’VE changed over the years! I always have about 5 ideas for new projects, adventures or products at any given time. Seriously, can we get to the point of technology downloading our brains yet? Anyways. You may have noticed I added a resource page with a few book recommendations (check it out if you’re looking for a good book to read next!) Instead of pouring a ton of work into something that no one wants, I want to poll you guys for what you actually want! So tell me what sounds interesting to you! Some of these are super long term ideas and some are close to being available. 🙂

If you don’t fill it out, this will be Bret’s reaction.

If you fill it out, I’ll smile like this!

Day 2621 – What I’m Reading Right Now

It’s surprising, even to me, to only have 3 books in my currently reading list. Even my “from the library” shelves are a little barren. The weekends are good for going through what I’ve got and narrowing things down. Honestly, it was a light reading weekend for me. I tore through the Lunar Chronicles so fast. Seriously dudes, I read ALL of the books (minus Stars Above, which is supplemental stories) in a week. Winter was over 800 pages too. Oy. Hard to hop back into reading after that!

What are you reading right now?
