Day 3049 – I Love To Write Day

When I saw this fun day pop up, I thought, “wow, that is SO true oh me now!” As a kid and young adult, I liked to write. I think at one point I did want to be a writer when I grew up. But like many things in life, it got pushed to the side as a “you can’t do that as a job” type thing. I still got the nagging thought that I needed to write a book. What that book would be about changed over the years, but the feeling wouldn’t go away. While it took me about three years to finally finish and publish my first book, I don’t regret the process. It changed me in so many ways. The second book was much easier, since it was a more practical topic, and I wrote and published in less than six months. My third book has been a lot harder, in some ways even more than my first book (digging into your struggles as an alcoholic and sharing that with the world wasn’t something I’d choose to do). And yet, I am still enjoying the process. I am still enjoying writing every day. I’m so thankful that I finally listened to that part of myself that needed to get words out to the world.

So a very happy I Love To Write Day to you!

Day 3047 – Setting Boundaries And Keeping Them

I have a whole lot going on in my life. Working for clients, working for Bret, writing my third book, building my online presence, reading 300 books this year (29 to go…what?!), just to name a few. I’m learning that having boundaries in my life is the way to fit everything in. I’ve noticed a few habits that have been making it much harder to meet my goals. I’ve noticed a very unhealthy habit with my phone. From checking work emails WAY too much….I mean, seriously, how much is actually going to happen between 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.? I was also playing way too many games. I cut them all off, but I have found I need a few. So I’m up to 2 games. As for checking work emails, I am so freakin’ proud of myself….I didn’t check them at all from about Friday at 5 p.m. until, well, I haven’t checked them yet. I always thought the ideal day would include free time all day to use as I wished, but having structure is so important for my workflow. I still have a long way to go, but it feels great to see results already.

How do you set boundaries in your life?

Day 3030 – Three Year Work Anniversary!

Three years ago today, I signed my first client for freelance work! It’s been such a blessing. All of my clients have been so great with being flexible with me this week.

Here’s a photo from our one year anniversary!

Day 3022 – Another Book That Changed My Life – Reading People By Anne Bogel

In case you’re brand spankin’ new, you know I love to read. I read all the time. One person who has helped me embrace my reading even more, is Anne Bogel of Modern Mrs. Darcy. She has been sharing about a book she wrote for a while, and after weeks of waiting, I finally got the audio version from the library. Audio books are harder for me to get through because I just don’t have the time to fit them in and listen as much as I would sit down to read. Thankfully, one thing I’m learning about myself is the need to break up my afternoons with a walk, dance party, and laughing like crazy. In my short walks, I’ve been making my way through the book. I’ve also gotten in a few chunks while driving to my job in Annapolis. I JUST finished last night, and I have to say, AMAZING! I’m a big fan of personality tests, and so is she. The book is about a number of different personality tests, and how they apply to your life. I found myself nodding along, and saying things like YES! in my head…..or out loud…. Truly getting to know yourself, knowing what you can and can’t handle, and not judging what you find has been huge in my life over the past few years. I’ve learned some things totally stress me out and I just can’t handle too much of it…or I have to cut it out completely. Things like nudity in movies, alcohol, or the books I read – I really can’t read some of the types of books I used to. I can’t watch some of the shows I used to. I can’t do some of the things I used to.

So to find a book that helps me further know myself, and embrace myself, gives me strength to continue in the path and forge ahead without apology. It also gave me some insight into others. So give Reading People* a listen, or a purchase. Or put in a hold request at the library. One thing I LOVE about Anne, is that she has no judgement for how you read a book.

Since I have no photo of her book, here’s a pretty picture. 😀
