About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 1237 – What Could Have Been or My Mom’s Wedding Dress

The past week or so, I’ve been going through all of my hard drives, doing a little spring cleaning. It’s pretty overwhelming, honestly. I have taken SO many pictures. There are pictures from YEARS ago that only I have seen…and even then, I’ve barely looked at them.

While going through, I found some pictures I took of myself in my mom’s wedding dress.

Looking back, I do still really like it. But I’m glad it turned out like it did….but more on that tomorrow.

For today, let me share my mom’s dress!!!

Day 1236 – It’s The Little Things or Peppermint Mocha From 7-Eleven

I had to return a few Red Box movies tonight so I decided to pop in the 7-Eleven and maybe grab a coffee. That’s when I found their seasonal Peppermint Mocha coffee. I was going to get their special holiday cup…but honestly, it just wasn’t big enough. So I got the extra large. I’m so glad I did. I should have gotten two. πŸ˜‰

Day 1235 – Where’s Jennilyn Or Last Minute Sushi Date

Last night, my dear friend Tif (my vegas buddy) posted a status on Facebook about sushi. She lamented that she needed more friends that liked it. Well, I do and I told her so. I also told her I would go any time. She took me up on that just hours later at Chopstix.

We had fantastic sushi and at the end of the meal, instead of dessert, I got tea. It was like the Mary Poppins tea pot. That thing lasted forever. I don’t think I’ve ever had so much tea in one sitting! (Maybe that’s why I was up until 3….)

Anyways, I had her grab a picture….she said I was in it….so I ducked down in the seat. You can see me if you look careful. So, today’s game is “Where’s Jennilyn?” The funny part is that I’m wearing red. tee hee.

Day 1234 – Eight Year Anniversary….In Business!!!

“I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart;
I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.
I will be glad and exult in you;
I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.”
Psalm 9:1-2

I could really just share that verse and be done. I am beyond words blessed right now. I never could have made it this far without God’s blessing. So many circumstances that have brought me to this place. So many awesome clients. Such an encouraging husband. So many friends that pushed me. So many jobs that shaped me into the business owner that I am today.

Wow, I am actually out of words. So, since it’s what I do, I’ll share a few pictures of us doing what we do. πŸ™‚

Day 1233 – Praying With Open Hands

I’ve been wanting to write this post for a while. Months, probably. And it’s on the topic of prayer.

I thought this would be a post on how we’ve been praying specific prayers. But as I was writing, I realized it’s more about praying with open hands.

As you might expect, one of my consistent prayers is for more business….but over the last year, it’s changed. I will ask for business, but I will add, if it’s Your Will. I pray for financial security, if it’s His Will. I ask for growth, in whatever means it takes.

The theme that continues to run through my prayers really comes down to giving my requests to my Lord and leaving them there.

It’s holding my business up to Him, but with open hands. It’s understanding that at ANY moment, it can all be taken away.

And can I tell you, it is so freeing. It is so peaceful. Knowing that He knows EVERYTHING, so I don’t need to worry or question the WHY.

I am in a situation now that I never expected I would be in a year ago. And yet, I’m the most joyful and peaceful I’ve ever been. I’m so thankful for how God has changed me in that way.

So, open your hands, hold loosely to what you ask for. His hands are safer.

And since I can’t really share a picture of “prayer” I will share a picture of clouds. I always think of prayer when there are pretty clouds. πŸ™‚
