About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 1379 – Jennilyn’s Survival Stew

I’ve posted pictures of this stew I’ve made before….but I finally came up with a name!!!

Jennilyn’s Survival Stew!
The base starts with Trader Joe’s Harvest Grains Blend.
Add 2-3 bags of frozen veggies
Add 2-3 cans of beans
And a meat

It’s very flexible, so you can add whatever you want. It’s SO yummy! AND when you eat it, you feel like you can survive in the wilderness!

Day 1378 – I Felt Like A Teenager Again

Tonight I spent the night at my friend Mel’s with our friend Katie. Mel is the maid of honor for our friend Tif and we’re throwing her a surprise shower tomorrow (note: writing this post from the future, so it won’t mess up the surprise)! We spent most of the evening prepping food, chatting about life and drinking wine (hence the picture below).

It was so great to catch up with old friends (I’m talkin’ years and years!) It made me feel like I was a teenager again, chatting about life and boys, sleeping over and all….the only difference was I wasn’t drinking wine when I was teenager. 🙂

So, the lesson here is this….don’t wait too long to catch up with your friends. 🙂

Day 1376 – How I Know I’m A Baltimore Girl…

I crave steamed blue crabs all year long. I put Old Bay on EVERYTHING (including my hummus and beef barely soup). And I wear flip flops in January. Yea, I saw the meme going around…. 😉

That being said, I’ve been chatting with a good friend of mine about getting together for a while….I said, well, we should grab some crabs!

Now, I’m a Baltimore girl, but I’m also a penny pincher….Back in the day, I would get $1 crabs with my friends ALL the time….and now it’s REALLY hard for me to spend more than that!

And woo hoo, I found a place!!

Jimmy’s Famous Seafood!! Wednesday nights, they have $1 crabs!

Here’s how they look!!! I’ll report later how they taste!!!

Day 1375 – Six Months Living At My Parents’ House…

6 months ago, we moved in with my parents. The reasoning was a combination of Bret losing his job, photography not picking up as quickly as we expected and really just God’s timing. Now, most people raise an eyebrow when you’re 30 years old, married and move back in with your parents. I totally get this, I do. But, the thing that kept repeating in our minds was this quote “Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t, so that you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t.”

Already, we’ve experienced:
– being debt free for the first time in our marriage
– 5 weddings shot and 6 more booked

But there are other benefits to living here:
