About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 1946 – Benefits Of Getting Up Early

Getting up early has been fantastic. I love how much I get done in the very early morning. The only downside happens around 2….at first I was like, dude, it’s only 2, why do I want to take a nap/stop working already?! But then I realized, oh, right, duh, I’ve been working for 6-8 hours already! It’s been an adjustment, to be sure! Being aware of your working habits is so important to success (and not beating yourself up!)

So what did I do this morning? Why, make brownies of course!

Day 1944 – Setting Marriage Goals And Keeping Them

We’ve been attempting to do daily devotions together since September 26th. I’m happy to say we’ve only missed 6 days….but! We were attempting to do morning and evening devotions. We found after about a month, we just weren’t getting much out of one of the devotionals (a morning and evening one), so we stopped reading that. So in THAT case, we’ve done some form of devotions every day. So the secret to keeping this?

First, we made it a routine. Second, for the OCD Jennilyn, I printed off a checkoff list. Not in a legalistic way, but just to see how far we’ve come.

I’m so thankful that this is part of our day now. I can see major changes in each of us as we grow closer to each other through growing closer to God.

What do you and your spouse do for devotions?
