About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 2015 – I Stick My Rings In Food…

I started this blog with the idea of taking a picture of my rings every day….I’d say I’ve gotten that right about 10% of the time. I’m trying to be more purposeful to share the adventures of not only my marriage, but my rings. I went to a wedding networking event yesterday with another photographer. We were talking about being creative with ring shots and I mentioned how we’ve stuck our rings in so many different foods….and that we’ve licked so many different foods off our rings.

Well, after the meal at the event, they gave us sorbet. I, of course, stuck my rings in my sorbet! Right after I removed them, the guy next to me asked which one was his….I laughed and said, the one without a ring mark!

I wonder where my rings will find themselves today….

Day 2012 – Now That The Record Is Attempted, I Shared Fractured Prune With Bret

I couldn’t wait until Bret was finished with his attempt for a bunch of reasons….but the biggest one was The Fracture Prune. If you haven’t tried them before, you’re totally missing out. Hot donuts with a million toppings, including but not limited to peanut butter and chocolate, should not be missed.

In the course of about 5 minutes, we at 6 between the two of us. Bret was unprepared for the awesomeness…

Day 2011 – Fat Chipmunks = Bret Getting A Passport

We are tentatively planning a cross country trip this summer. I asked my Facebook friends for some suggestions and chatted with my dad about fun places he’s visited. Through conversations, it came to my attention that we gotta check out the Canadian Rockies. I chatted with Bret on the way to school about this suggestion. This will be a paraphrase of our conversation…

Jennilyn: We should get our passports so we can go into Canada and see the Canadian Rockies.
Bret: Why are they better than the American ones?
Jennilyn: I dunno, they’re more majestic or something.
Bret: Eh, seems like one of those “grass is greener on the other side things.”
Jennilyn: Well, apparently, the fat chipmunks are on the Canadian side. Did I tell you about those?
Bret: No.
Jennilyn: When my family drove cross country when I was a kid, we hiked up this little mountain. At the top of the mountain is a tea house. Inside the tea house are these little chipmunks that are like this fat. (Here I put out my hands to about the size of a kitten…no joke).
Bret: Seriously?
Jennilyn: Yea!
Bret: Find out if that was actually in Canada. If so, we’ll get our passports.
Jennilyn: ::laughing::
Bret: I’m serious.

There you have it folks, fat chipmunks are the way to Bret’s passport. If I had known this, we would’ve gotten ours a long time ago!

I am SO ready for this trip! Where are your favorite places in the United States? We’ll more than likely be spending a bit of time in the north west side!
