About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 2310 – Why You Should Read A Poem To Yourself First….Especially When You Think It’s About Your Husband

This morning, I thought it would be fun to relisten to some messages we listened to for our pre-marital counseling. I was digging around for the paperwork that went with it, so we could compare the notes we made 7 years ago. I found in the process a folder of my old poems. I found one and I’m like, oooo, this is from our first year together! So I started reading it out loud to Bret.

I got about 1/3 of the way through when I’m like, wait…..Bret didn’t do that….wait….that’s not right….I stopped mid read and did the oooops face and he’s like, is that about “one of my exes”?? I nodded and then we both just laughed and laughed. So! Make sure you read through things first!

But I did find a poem that is still true about a dear love of mine…..

Jars of Peanut Butter
Oh, the sweet taste of peanut butter
It’s so sweet, it makes my heart flutter
I like it with honey
And eating it when it’s sunny
It’s even good with some crackers
It makes me lick my smackers
In the sight of it, some shudder
But I’ll always love my
Jars of Peanut Butter

Day 2309 – Who To Call When Your Computer Goes Haywire

I mentioned that I had a crazy computer day on Wednesday. Well, now is the time for the full story.

Ok, so I bought a great new PC laptop in January. My previous laptop did a great job for many years, but after seriously hampering my ability to work over Christmas vacation, I knew it was time to upgrade. Thanks to the insurance money from the truck, I was able to get it without worrying about the money. (Thank you God for providing what we need!)

My poor laptop had a rough start. But after getting the CD drive fixed, everything was working great for about 8-9 months. I’ve got a great mobile office setup going on. I can work from either of my clients’ homes or the library or Panera. It’s been working swimmingly.

Well, about a month ago, my laptop started acting funky. It would pop up menus, it would type when I wouldn’t want it to. It was just all around possessed. After an unsuccessful exorcism, I just tried to work with it. On Wednesday, I started a system restart…instead of working for two hours before a business meeting, like I intended to do, I sat staring at a progress screen. I posted on Facebook about my woes, made a side comment about converting to a Mac (don’t tell my laptop and desktop). In the comments that followed, I had a long time friend pipe in and say, and I’m paraphrasing here, “Hey, dude, why didn’t you just talk to me about this when it started….I am an IT guy.” So, I gave him a little blurb about the problem and said he’d be the first to know if I needed help.

Wellllllll, 52 minutes later, he got a nice long FB message from me. Throughout the rest of the day, this guy remotely logged in and checked things on my laptop. When things weren’t working later that night, he remotely logged in again and made some modifications. Thankfully (and this is the biggest reason why I needed a working laptop), Bret and I were able to watch The Walking Dead and The Talking Dead (dudes, I don’t know what y’all are talking about….last week’s episode was NOT boring….amazing acting and great story. Talking Dead was top notch too….)

Everything was wonderful and amazing and awesome…..until I went to try out my laptop again yesterday…AND here are the menus popping up again. Thankfully, my friend has room in his schedule to take a look at the innards of my messed up laptop….because this seems like an internal problem (but aren’t all our problems on the inside?)

So friends, if you are pulling your hair out over your computer woes, please reach out to Chris at Qtek Technologies. He works with residential folks and small businesses. He can do on site or remote work. His email is support@qtektechnologies.com or you can call him at 410-206-8851. Let him know you heard about him from me!

Don’t worry little laptop (no….big laptop, sucker has a 17″ screen)….we’ll get those demons out of you soon.

Soon we’ll be hanging out in our favorite library without a care in the world…

Day 2307 – A Day Of Crazy, But An Awesome Time With My Husband

Today was an absolutely insane day, including my laptop nearly blowing up in my face. In the midst of the crazy, Bret and I went for a run. It was so nice to run with him, and even though I got several cramps, was huffing and puffing by the end, I finished the run without stopping. It was also nice to get away from technology for 15 minutes. Oy vey!

Stay tuned for the story of my crazy day and the contact information of someone who saved my laptop….and probably my sanity. πŸ™‚

Day 2306 – An Amazing Baltimore Maryland Wedding Photographer Who I Have The Pleasure Of Working For!

As you know, I photographed my last wedding in May of this year. It was a decision I thought a long time about. Part of the reason I decided to stop photographing weddings was because I had a part time job with a fantastic photographer.

A year ago, I was hired as a studio manager for Robin Shotola Photography & Design. Robin is one of those photographers that I followed for a few years and always loved her photos. She specializes in a photojournalistic approach to whatever she’s photographing. Whether it’s a corporate event, holiday party or wedding. She is so talented at capturing moments in beautiful, crisp light. I adore her work. Now that I work for her, I get paid to gush about her work to potential clients, it’s AWESOME. And I mean, take a look at this recent wedding she photographed at the American Visionary Art Museum.

Today, Robin and I celebrated a successful year of working together with breakfast! I am honored to work for such an amazing woman who I get to call a friend. πŸ™‚
