We look very suspicious of this book…

I purchased almost all of these ingredients from Aldi’s and Big Lots. The frozen veggies were purchased from Mars during a sale.
One thing I love to do is make a big old pot of something and eat the left overs for the week. My most recent creation turned out REALLY well. I didn’t add spices, so Bret did add some spicy sauce and some spices. I sometimes use this big old pot of stuff as an excuse for junk food like Velveeta Shells and Cheese. Today I tried out corn pasta, which was actually pretty good!
Here’s my recipe and the nutritional info.
– Corn Pasta – $1.25 at Big Lots – whole bag
– Hunt’s Tomato Sauce – $1.00 at Big Lots – whole can
– Variety bag of frozen veggies – ~$2.00 at Mars Super Market (I think I got this and the follow frozen veggies for $1.00-$1.50, but for our purposes, since I can’t remember, I’m estimating high) – whole bag
– Frozen green beans – ~$2.00 at Mars Super Market – whole bag
– Frozen sweet peas – ~$2.00 at Mars Super Market – whole bag
– Hormel Chili – ~$2.00 at Big Lots – whole can
– 1lb Ground turkey – Aldi – ~$4.00 – whole pound
1. Brown Turkey
2. Prepare pasta per package
3. Heat all veggies
4. As things are finishing, pour in a giant mixing bowl – I put the chili and pasta sauce on the bottom so they would heat as hot ingredients were added.
5. Mix it all together
Notes:
– I’ve started to freeze about 65-75% of what I make so we don’t get bored and so it lasts a while.
– While totaling the nutritional facts, I was very disappointed in the sodium and carbs. I’ll more than likely nix the chili and tomato sauce next time for other ingredients
– I didn’t have the receipts for the frozen veggies, chili and turkey, so I just estimated.
Final cost overall – $15.11, $1.08 per serving

I hit my lunch time slump and decided to procrastinate and read. Funny enough, I got a book out of the library on just that topic – Procrastination On Purpose. I started reading it, not really sure what type of book it would be. The more I read and learn about business, the more critical I am of fluff. I will stop reading a book, listening to a webinar, following someone if they’re all fluff. Keep the “you can do it!” stuff, please. Give me the meat and potatoes. As my friend and amazing business woman Mara Glazer would say – “Cut the crap!”
As I jumped in, I found myself taking notes very quickly. The way I read books (if I don’t own them) is to copy quotes that speak to me, are good advice and I generally want to remember. By page 10, I’d already written down 5 things. A few highlights:
“Priority dilution – delaying the day’s most important activities by consciously or unconsciously allowing our attention to shift to less important tasks.”
“The most successful people I knew never complained or even spoke about how busy they were.”
“Your problem is not that you are too busy, your problem is that you don’t own your situation.”
“You are not a victim. You are in charge. You are capable. You are powerful enough to decide what you will and won’t do with your time.”
Already, in the first few pages, this guy is cutting the crap. I found myself thinking, oh, yea, my super long to do list today was not because my life is so hard and I’m sooooo busy….it’s my own darn fault. I was reminded of binge watching 7 nearly 50 minute episodes in two days, hours and hours playing Disney Magic Kingdoms and Minions Paradise AND camping that brought me here. We’ll see if I finish the book but it was a great reminder to this procrastinator.

We are anything but normal. We also crack each other up a lot. A ton of our conversations never see the light of day because they’re too ridiculous. But here’s a little look behind the curtain.
Jennilyn – “You’re my favorite person.”
Bret – “I know.”
Jennilyn – “How did you figure it out?”
Bret – “You marrying me was a good indicator.”
~~~~~
Bret – “Crap! Where’s my ring?
Bret – ….
Bret – “Oh, nevermind, it’s in my belly button.”
~~~~~
Jen – “Where do you want to go tonight?”
Bret – “We’re going somewhere tonight?”
Jen – ::stare….more than likely with angry eyes::
Bret – “Wait, did I agree to that?”
Jen – ::face palm:: – “Lord, thank you that I didn’t murder my husband today.”
Bret – “Father, thank you that my wife didn’t murder me today.”
~~~~~
Jennilyn (reading questions out of a conversation starter book) – “‘What is one thing that is lost that you wish you could get back?'”
Bret – “I can’t really think of anything.”
Jennilyn – “I guess my hard drive that had pictures of us when we started dating.”
Bret – “Hmmmm, I still can’t think of anything. Maybe that ring my dad gave me.”
Both – ::moment of realization::
Jennilyn – “Uhhhh, what about your wedding ring?!?!”
Bret – “How did NEITHER of us think of that right away?”
