You read about our crazy road trip yesterday. We spent nearly ten hours in the car together. I would say each of us only slept about an hour. So that left us with 8 hours to talk. We played the alphabet game (in order, you call out signs that have that letter, you can’t repeat what the other said)….I think we’re still playing and stuck on Q… When we weren’t playing, I found an awesome list of questions about getting to know your spouse. As we went through, some of them we knew – what is concerning you, what are your strengths/weaknesses. But the ones about our childhoods were so much fun. I learned things I’ve never known about Bret (he played baseball in high school) and I shared stories from a cross country trip I took with my parents, brother and grandfather when I was 5.
I think continuing to get to know each other is so important. I feel like it comes easy to Bret and I, but I think that’s because we put in the work to make sure it happens. The easy thing to do is to prop up your feet and veg out when you come home from work. There are times we fall into this, but a lot of the time, Bret will make time to see me first and see how I’m doing. Even if it’s only a minute or two, he does it.
Have you learned something new about your spouse today?
