I read Nineteen Minutes* by Jodi Picoult a few years back. Like all of her books, it caused me to think about a situation from different perspectives. This novel is not for the faint of heart, it’s topic, a school shooting, is very unsettling. What makes the story interesting is that she tells the story from many viewpoints. From the shooter to other students, to detectives, to judges, to parents of the shooter.

One thing I’ve noticed over the past few years is that most folks aren’t too keen to talk about the hard topics. Or, if they are, it’s in a very one-sided approach. While Jodi’s books tend to take a look inside perspectives we don’t normally look at. She doesn’t judge the perspective, she just expresses it as it is for the character.

If you want to learn how to see the world through another’s eyes, Nineteen Minutes, or any Jodi Picoult book, might be just the ticket.
