Day 3320 – Seeing John Williams Live – or – Major Bucket List Item Done

After months of planning and thinking about it – I have seen John Williams, live and in person. I can now say that I have heard the Star Wars theme song played by its composer. That is a really awesome thing to say. I can’t wait to print out the pictures as a reminder that you can set a goal and make it happen.

It was a whirlwind trip, for sure, and I’ll write more about all the specifics later, but for today, let me share about the concert itself.

We arrive a bit later than we planned because we made a number of stops and got caught in really bad traffic. But we still found a decent spot, after moving a few times.

I loved the layout of this venue. The inside was really neat and open, and the grounds were huge. The photo above doesn’t do the distance justice. We were maybe in the front 20% of the lawn.

Oh man, it was a rainy night! We had ponchos and they really helped to keep us dry, but at times it was almost torrential and you can’t really not get wet with only ponchos.

It was hard to get a good night photo, but I love how it looks like he’s a projection on the right screen.

All in all, it was a wonderful evening, and one that I will remember always. If you’re ever up in the Lenox area, try and catch a show at Tanglewood/Koussevitzky Music Shed.

Have you ever been?

Day 3319 – Letting Go Of (Or Delaying) Big Travel Plans

Right now, I’m on a trip that was supposed to be a lot more epic than it was, at least distance and location-wise. We’ve had plans to see John Williams in concert all summer. The concert took place on the west side of Massachusetts. We thought we were so close to the northern states, we could knock out the four we were missing (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts). As the concert approached, we still hadn’t decided what we would do and we didn’t come to a final decision until Tuesday beforehand. As much as we wanted to, and could have fit it all in, we realized we’d be way too rushed and wouldn’t get to really enjoy ourselves.

What made this hard was that we went back and forth a few times. At first, we thought, we can go! I even reached out to friends who lived in the northern states. But that same day, it was clear that it would be too much. Fast forward to Tuesday, when we thought, well, maybe we could due to a change in our real estate investing business….but it would be a long time out of town. While I was really looking forward to seeing those states, my immediate reaction was relief. It took the stress of super planning out, and freed me up to think about the things I really wanted to see. But I now have an outline of a future trip when we can give it the time it deserves.

I think a big travel muscle to grow is your patience and being ok with a change of plans.

Have you ever had to let go of or delay travel plans you were really looking forward to?

Day 3318 – Play In The Sand Day!

I am such a big fan of the beach and sand and the ocean. While it’s doubtful I’ll get to play in the sand today, I wanted to share some of my favorite photos from my adventures in the sand.

Day 3317 – Boston, Here We Come!!!

I’ve been to Boston a few times for the Marathon and I’ve always had an amazing time. It’s such a great city and I can’t wait to share it with Bret. The one thing I just can’t wait to share with him is the Freedom Trail. You can be sure I’ll be sharing all about the trip both here and on my new blog, so stay tuned!

Day 3315 – Planning Work When You’re Going Away

This Friday, Bret and I will be taking a quick trip to Boston and then Lenox to see John Williams (composer of Star Wars, ET, Indiana Jones, etc.) I’m so excited to see him in concert! We spent a bit of time deciding if we would take a longer trip and hit the other 3 states we haven’t visited up that way (VT, NH, ME), but realizing just how much there was to see there and how much we’d be rushing through, we decided it made more sense to just visit MA. After making the decision, I then figured out what I needed to do for work before we left.

If you’re not using it yet, you gotta make Asana a part of your life. I currently have six different accounts for six different businesses. While you don’t need to create so many accounts, it works for me to separate each one. What I love about Asana is I can quickly look at the upcoming tasks by date. I can see what HAS to be done and what can be moved. I can easily change dates and know what to add to each of my written to-dos. This hybrid system of a digital to-do list that I then put on paper to-dos has worked well for me.

I looked at my needs for this blog and for my Facebook group. I wrote everything out and brainstormed what I could write about. I plan on writing and scheduling those today.

Next, I printed off a packlist from my personal Asana account. This is something that is relatively the same for each trip, but I plan on making modifications and using that information for supplementing my new blog.

I also created a to-do list for what I need to do before the trip – booking the rooms, finding different things to do, etc.

So a good deal of the “work” of figuring out what I need to do was already done since I track my tasks in Asana.

In some respects, I feel like I’m overplanning for what is really only one day off since I mostly just do personal project type stuff on the weekends, but it was a good reminder for the benefits of planning things out in advance.

What do you do when planning your work while you’re away for a trip?
