Day 949 – Loyola Alumni Memorial Chapel

Today I took a trip down to Loyola Alumni Memorial Chapel. My St. Patty’s Day couple is getting married there! I wanted to take a peek and get comfortable with the space before their wedding.

Here’s a few shots I got while I was there.

I couldn’t resist putting a fun filter on this next one. It wasn’t night time or stormy (as you can see above) but this just fit!

The inside is just as breathtaking as the outside!

I even got to capture the sunlight casting beautiful reflections through the stained glass windows!

I can’t wait to photograph here!

Day 948 – Valentine’s Day Musings

I know everyone will be posting about love and romance and all that fun stuff today. I have a story very near to my heart that I would like to share.

On 2/14/2007 we had a huge snow in Maryland. It shut down the state, really. I’ve always worked at places that NEVER close for snow, so it was a very pleasant surprise to find out I didn’t have to go to work. I had a number of things I wanted to do that day, but something very profound and important happened on that day. Here’s what I wrote in my journal (which I mostly use for writing down my prayers. So it’s kind of like written conversations I have with God and just general thoughts).

“I am so thankful for this day! Please bless my day, help me to live it to it’s fullest, help me to really grow during this time with you now. Father, please heal my wounded heart. Help me to embrace my singleness and where you are leading my life right now. I know you have my best in mind. You are so good to me!

‘His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him.’ John 12:16

How often this is true of us! We don’t know what God is doing until we get a major breakthrough and then we can see where he was working and his plan throughout.”

It was the first time in my life that I truly accepted my singleness. I had been through several relationships at this point and was even slightly pursuing a few guys around the time of writing the above entry. I always heard people say, oh, once you stop looking for someone, you’ll meet them! I would play the “yes, I’m done looking!” but would still be looking over my shoulder. On that day, 5 years ago, I truly meant what I said. I was content with being single. I can’t really put into words what that was like, especially after desiring a relationship for SO long. Desperately, and trust me when I say desperately!

What I didn’t know then, and what brings me to tears on nearly every single telling of that day, was that I would meet the love my life two days later.

Whatever your take on Valentine’s Day and whatever you’re doing today, I hope that this story encourages you, in whatever way you need encouraging.

UPDATE: We ended up having a last minute date on Valentine’s Day and I never shared the picture!

Day 943 – Website Updates or My Heart, All Over the Page

I have changed my website several times over the last year. Not because I can’t make my mind up, but because I have changed as a person, a photographer and just an overall business owner over the last year. I have learned SO much about myself just in the few months I’ve been a full time photographer. With every update to the website, more and more of myself is being shared on the pages. More and more of my truly favorite pictures and moments are being shared. The more I am helping brides see what they will get if they hire Bret and I. Since I’m sure the next few days will be filled with lots of focus on the website, I’m going to share a few of my favorites from 2011!

Day 935 – Bret’s New Habit and a Super Sweet Video

I have been a coffee drinker for as long as I can remember. I have taken my coffee black since 2004. Bret has never really been a coffee drinker.

Recently though, he’s been having a few more cups a week with me. Every time I ask if he wants a cup of coffee and he says yes, it still surprises me. Today was no different.

Like the mug with our mugs? We offer them on our website!

I also watched this video about marriage today. By the end of the second viewing (Bret was distracted on my first viewing) I was crying like a little baby because I’m just so happy with Bret. I feel overwhelmingly blessed. Enjoy!

Day 934 – Bret’s Wedding Ring – Third Time is the Charm??

We have been married for 934 days. In that time, he has lost his ring twice. Funny enough, both times he lost the ring at my parents’ house (we think).

We stopped by Target for a few things last night and just before checkout…

Bret – Maybe we can find a ring, but I don’t want to spend more than ten bucks.
Me – Challenge accepted!

We look around a bit and I find one, he tries it on and ALMOST can’t get it off. We joke about him wearing it and having them scan his finger.

Me – HA! $9.99! I win! 🙂
