Day 3361 – Why Should You Read? – Read A New Book Month Day 23

I’ve really enjoyed sharing some of my all-time favorite and life-changing books the past few weeks with y’all, but I wanted to do something a little different today, talk about WHY you should read. I have to say, I’ve missed chatting about what’s going on in our life but it has been fun to have a stricter structure to my posts. I hope you’ve found a new book to read so far, if you have, let me know in the comments below!

Here’s how reading has changed my life:

– It caused me to change careers.
– It gave me an epicly strong marriage.
– It opens my eyes to worlds I never knew existed.
– It reminded me that I’m not alone in my struggles.
– It has challenged my thoughts on things and encouraged me to look at other sides.
– It has brought me new friends and closer to those I already had.
– It has given me an excuse to take a cool trip.

Why do you read?

Day 3360 – Essentialism – A Book To Help You Craft A Life Out Of The Best – Read A New Book Month Day 22

Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less* by Greg McKeown was such a great read. It really helps you minimize the things that aren’t as important and focus on what’s best. As a minimalist, this book was right up my alley.

If you’ve wanted to get into minimalism or if you feel like you just have so much going on and want to make sure you’re focusing on the best, this is the book for you.

Day 3358 – Not So Different – A Book To Help Kids (And Adults) Understand People Who Seem Different – Read A New Book Month Day 20

Not So Different: What You Really Want to Ask About Having a Disability* by Shane Burcaw was such a great book to share with kids when they have questions about folks in wheelchairs or that seem different from them. Shane does a great job of explaining his situation, why he’s in a wheelchair, and really that it’s ok to ask questions.

I started reading his memoir, Laughing At My Nightmare, and his humor is so great and he is a wonderful example of still living a great life, even if life throws you a few punches.

Day 3357 – The Last Lecture – A Book That Reminds You To Live And Enjoy Life – Read A New Book Month Day 19

The Last Lecture* by Randy Pausch was a book (and lecture) I heard about a few times and I finally got to read the book in March. It was a great confirmation that I am living my life with the end in mind. Given that I’ve experienced so much loss in my life, I strive to embrace each day, and I recognize the end often.

I loved how Randy talks about life and death and experiencing it all. It was a very moving book and I think well worth your time. Have you read it or seen his lecture? Let me know in the comments below.

Day 3356 – My Friend Fear: Finding Magic in the Unknown – or – I Bought A Book Today – Read A New Book Month Day 18

My Friend Fear: Finding Magic in the Unknown* by Meera Lee Patel was one of those lovely serendipitous library finds. The whole book was quite magical and helped me to look at fear differently. Meera’s art with the typed words and hand-drawn words combined into a beautiful journey through fear and how we can find magic in the unknown.

If you’ve spent any time here, you know the majority of my books come from the library. Until the last year or so, almost exclusively. But through my heavy reading, I’ve found some authors I’ve fallen in love with. Meera is one of them. Today, her new book Made Out Of Stars came out and I picked it up. I won’t link to it yet since I haven’t read it, but it seems like it will be just as great of a read. It’s a part journal, part book dealio and I can’t wait to start reading and filling it out! Have you read any of her books? Let me know in the comments below!
