About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 3041 – Happy Hug A Bear Day!

Now, don’t go hugging a real bear! Unless you’re around a tame one, I guess? To celebrate, here’s some old photos of Bret hugging my bears. πŸ˜€

Enjoy a walk down memory lane, to when we were wedding photographers.

Day 3038 – Sharing A Car For Nearly Three Years

For nearly three years, we have shared a car. It’s not something most couples could realistically do, between different jobs, kids, and different interests.

When we had to go down to one vehicle, we thought, well, let’s try it and see how long we can last. I can say, there have only been a handful of times that it’s been a struggle in the last three years. We’ve saved a lot of money with only one vehicle. It’s also helped us both grow in patience. Sometimes we have to wait for the other, sometimes it can be for a long time. But thankfully, I have a job that’s super flexible (and work for amazing clients who are soooooo understanding).

Another benefit is more time together. We get to catch up with each other a lot more since we drive together.

While there is a part of me that misses being able to up and go whenever I want, it has forced me to be logical about my errands and running around.

We’ll likely get a new car soon, since my good ol’ Sam (you name your car, don’t you?) is nearly at 250,000 miles (less than 5,000 miles to go!)

What about you? Have you ever shared a car with your spouse?

Day 3037 – Krispy Kreme, Free Doughnuts, And A Really Funny Story

A few weeks ago, I went to Krispy Kreme on my way home from work. On that visit, I Facetimed with Bret eating a doughnut. Looking back, that was a little mean. But we like to share joy with each other.

Yesterday, Bret had an appointment near a new, much closer Krispy Kreme. I texted him joking about not minding if he stopped by and got doughnuts. He did stop. He ordered a half dozen regular doughnuts. When his order was called, they tried to give him a dozen. He’s like, thanks, but I only ordered half. He sat down with his doughnuts, and really enjoyed the time, watching the sunset and listening to Elvis playing. His original plan was to eat 3 and give me the other 3 when he got back. But he was enjoying himself so much, so he said YOLO, and ate a fourth, deciding to get another half dozen. He then texted me this picture, saying Ooops.

At this point he ordered another half dozen. When he ordered more, they joked with him saying “Oh, you’re back?” He then told them the story of how I went to Krispy Kreme and didn’t wait for him. Then, when he went to pick up his order, again they wanted to give him a dozen. The employee actually gave him the whole dozen, saying, “you didn’t take the other one, when you could have, and since your wife didn’t wait for you last time.” So we now have a whole lot of doughnuts!
