About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 3236 – Sunday Brunch With My B

Yesterday, I had this grand vision of sitting in Atwater’s with Bret and brainstorming with Bret about my new project for hours. Little did I know that Saturday and Sunday there are servers and it’s not the same “sit for a while to work” vibe as during the week. So, we got breakfast and chatted about an upcoming trip.

It was a truly magnificent breakfast, I have to say.

Day 3235 – When To Step Away From The Computer

A major portion of my work is done on a computer. From blogging to writing to work for clients, most of my job is on the computer. Yesterday, I powered through a course I purchased and spent hours on the computer. This caused my back to become sore, specifically the muscle controlling the mouse. I knew I had to get off the computer and stop working for the day. It’s harder for me to stop working on the weekends because I see it as “project day” and I want to get a lot done. But I have to listen to my body and stop when I need to.

Thankfully, my soreness is gone and I can work today.

Does your body let you know when you need to stop?

Day 3234 – A Royal Wedding And A Great Way To Spend A Saturday Morning

I, and a good portion of the world, I’d imagine, sit here watching the Royal Wedding. It has been so fun watching all of the tradition, music, and reverence. What struck me as I watched was the seriousness of the ceremony. The words are oft repeated at weddings, but being held in such a place of grandeur, gave the ceremony even more weight. It always warms my heart to see marriage held in such high esteem.

Since I’m obviously not there, I have no pictures to share. But here’s a castle we saw in Kentucky! 😀

Day 3233 – Happy International Virtual Assistants Day!

This October, I will have been a virtual assistant for four years. I’ve so enjoyed working for really awesome business owners and am thankful I can use my skills in a way to help others.

A very happy International Virtual Assistants Day to all my fellow VA’s out there!!

Day 3232 – The Books That Have Changed My Life Completely

I’ve read so many books but there are a few that have completely changed my life. I wanted to share those with you today! All of these links are affiliate links, which means I’ll get a small percentage of your purchase, if you choose to buy something.

The 4-Hour Workweek, Expanded and Updated: Expanded and Updated, With Over 100 New Pages of Cutting-Edge Content. by Timothy Ferriss. This book is THE ultimate reason I stopped photographing weddings. I think it has also impacted how I think about travel. If you want any kind of shift in your life, this is the place to start.

Dream Big, Think Small: Living an Extraordinary Life One Day at a Time by Jeff Manion. I randomly found this book at the library. I’m not even sure why I grabbed it off the shelf. But it completely changed how I think about my goals and dreams. By accepting that even teeny tiny itty bitty baby steps are still moving towards my goals, it helped me to keep working on things every single day.

You Are a Badass at Making Money: Master the Mindset of Wealth by Jen Sincero. I only just recently read this one and it has had a profound change in me already. It helped me to actually go for something I’ve been dreaming about for a long time. It forced me to take action during a time when it didn’t seem “wise” to take action. What’s crazy is that I can already SEE my success in this new project. I finished reading this on April 23rd, and I’m already reading it again.

There are dozens of books that have helped me to change my mindset and my life in many ways, but these three books made the biggest shifts in my life.

What book (or books) have majorly changed your life?
