Here’s my new office!!

And a few things I keep near by to encourage me as I work.

As I was taking the pictures for today’s post, I honestly was a little embarrassed. I tried to take the pictures in such a way that you couldn’t see the concrete blocks on the walls, the unfinished ceiling and wires everywhere. I thought, man, I don’t want people to see this and think “wow, how low can you go?” What an ungrateful person am I! You know what’s going on with us if you’ve been reading this blog over the last few months. You know Bret lost his job and we decided to move back in with my gracious parents. We still feel it was God directing our path here. Here I am again, in a way, ashamed. And yet, I remember that this is a “sacrifice” to ensure our dreams can come true. Whenever these negative thoughts cross my mind, I’m almost immediately taken to a posture of thankfulness. I think about others who are without homes…everything…in New York and New Jersey….not hours away from me. I think of those who are living out of the cars. Bret and I met a guy at the climbing gym a while back…and he was from another country…I couldn’t tell you which now….but he mentioned how they never went out to eat….because they didn’t have the money. Bret reminds me of this when we go out to eat or order delivery and that we are living like kings. I mean, really, have you thought about that? Someone is bringing you food, cleaning up your mess. It’s crazy how much more thankful you can be if you just shift where you’re looking.
So, without anymore of my ramblings, here is our new space!

I love having the bookshelves in the main walkway…it has rekindled my heart with desire to read again. I have been reading SO much since we’ve been here!

And don’t worry, I didn’t keep my toys packed away!

You might remember Jason Hisley from my post about him being on Sweet Genuis, or from Flavor Cupcakery or from stopping by his new shop, La Cakerie.
I met Jason through Flavor Cupcakery and officially at his Sweet Genius viewing party. We’re now Facebook friends…and that makes me feel like I know a celebrity. π I was invited to the opening of La Cakerie on Saturday…but just couldn’t make it out. I FINALLY made it by his new shop today! It worked out really well, because I was able to pick up Bret from school so we could try it together. I do want to point out that there is parking behind the shop! Wish I’d known before we paid to park…it was only a buck, but still….that’s another buck we could have spent in his store!
Ok, first impressions here…..I wanted to buy everything. I was drooling. Oooing and aaaaahing for about 5 minutes. It took us forever to make a decision. Check out the spread!

Yes, you read that right….Maple Bacon Donut. Hold on…there’s more…

So with all these wonderful choices, what did we get you ask? Here’s a picture….after we started digging in…

We got a soft pretzel with cheese, a HUGE cinnamon roll with the most AMAZING cream cheese icing and the Maple Bacon Donut. We also got a loaf of bread, not pictured, but just as delish.
Now you might be thinking, um, how was that donut? It was actually pretty amazing! Great combination of seemingly opposite tastes. I honestly couldn’t get over how perfectly they went together. The pretzel and cinnamon roll were just amazing.
So, what are you waiting for?? Go check them out! Here’s what they look like from the outside.

Their address is 49 W Chesapeake Ave, Towson, MD 21204 and their hours are 7am-7pm Monday through Saturday.
A few days ago, my car started a mini-hesitation when it started…and then my headlights were dimming a little when I would drive. This morning, Bret attempted to start the car and it was a struggle. So we decided to take it in for a check up. I was worried driving down, because while finances aren’t terrible right now, we don’t have a ton of disposable income. Turns out I just had some water log action going on. This seems to be a common problem after the hurricane. I also saw a TON of people come in for tires with screws/nails/etc in them. Something I NEVER would have thought about, but it makes total sense.
I did need tires though…something I’ve been putting off for a little while. Now here’s where we get to why I LOVE Hollenshade’s in Towson, Maryland. Instead of the typical scenario I’m used to in a car repair shop….a long list of things that need to be done and a big bill….they tell me what they recommend and if I ask, well, how long can I “get away without doing it” they’ll give me an honest response. Today it was a until the first snow. Since we’re pretty close to winter AND there was an offer for a $50 gift card if you purchased 4 tires AND my hubby thought it was a good idea….we went ahead and got them. They are some nice looking tires too!
Another reason I like them is there is a family atmosphere while you’re there. Asking customers about things going on in their lives (did so and so have her baby yet? How did the move go?). It is a family owned business since 1939…and you can really tell. π
I also got a free calendar! Thanks Hollenshade’s!

We had a family portrait shoot on Saturday. As usual, my dear husband let me photograph him to test out the lighting…I’ll add that he HATED getting his picture taken before meeting me. I don’t think he particularly enjoys it now, but he lets me. π

Nice mug there Mr. Gaitan!
Oh, the Lion? He helped out too. π
