About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 3281 – My How Our Travel Has Changed

As I scrolled through my memories on Facebook today, I noticed a post I made about booking an anniversary trip with Bret. I said it was the first time we went away just the two of us since our honeymoon….four years later. It struck me how much things have changed in terms of how much we travel. It makes me so much more pumped to share our experiences through my new blog. I look back at how I used to think about travel (it’s expensive, I can never travel, I’m jealous of people who always seem to be traveling) and wish I could shake myself and say there is a better way. Travel can be so much more accessible. Whether through ruthlessly saying no to eating out or using a points credit card to save up points for free travel or staying with friends. There are countless ways to make travel a reality in your life.

How have your thoughts about travel changed over the years?

Day 3280 – Happy Fourth Of July!!

I love the Fourth of July because I love this country. Even with all its imperfections. I am grateful to live here.

I hope you have a great day celebrating your independence if you’re in the USA or that you have a nice Wednesday if you’re outside the country. 😀

Day 3279 – My New Project – Traveling Jen Finding Zen

I’ve been hinting about it for a few months and I am ready to announce…..I am starting a new blog! The purpose will be encouraging others that they CAN take a road trip and that it is much more accessible than they think. We’ve taken four cross-country road trips and I love telling people how possible it can be to take a trip.

There were a few things that happened in my life that created a perfect storm of the perfect timing to jump in. I purchased a blog course bundle to help me build my new blog, learn the right way to set things up (there are lot of things on THIS blog that I want to change now), and will be working towards making an income through the blog.

If you want to follow along with my journey, check out my different online accounts!

I’m still building things and like many projects, I know it will change as time goes on. I’d love to know what you guys think!

I will be taking photos of myself doing the tree pose and making my selfie face on my journeys!

Day 3277 – Ten Years Ago Today, I Got The Best Phone Call Ever

It was the middle of the night and I received a call. Bret and I had been dating for just over a year. At the time, he had asked me to not call for a few days because he wanted to think about some things. Basically – should we get married or not. When he called that night, I’m not sure I was expecting the question, I was just thankful for a call. It’s not the normal way of things – getting a proposal over the phone, but I love that it is the way we went about things.

The past ten years have taken us to places I never expected or planned to go, but there is no other dance partner I would rather have in this crazy dance.

Happy proposal day B, I’m so glad you asked me the question and I’m so glad I said yes.
