About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 1410 – To Say I’m Proud Of Bret Is An Understatement…

Today Bret finished up his 8th college semester. He only has one semester left of student teaching, then he’ll be a physical education teacher. I am so stinkin’ proud of him!

To attend college in and of itself is an accomplishment…but Bret has worked SO hard…especially this semester.

During this semester he’s:
Photographed 4 weddings with me
Started his own business
He’s gotten three clients
He teaches at a gym
He’s been substitute teaching
And done a few odd jobs for friends

I don’t know how he’s done it! That might explain why he’s been taking a nap for the last two hours…. πŸ˜‰

Day 1409 – How My Husband Keeps Me Humble

Bret knows me pretty darn well. So well that he can call me out on things.

A few days ago, he pointed out something I really should do. It’s something I’ve needed to do for about 3 years. I proceeded to joke with him.

Me – But I’ve been soooooo busy the last three years!
Bret – Oh really?
Me – Yea, swamped!
Bret – How many times have you watched Friends in the last 3 years?

Oucha! (The answer is at least 4-5 times)

I am glad I have someone like Bret who loves me like crazy…enough to keep me in line! πŸ™‚

Day 1408 – A Really Cool Thought About Jesus

I read a verse in my devotions this week that really spoke to me.

“Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.”
John 21:25

What an exciting thought! That we know so little of all Jesus did…and what little we do know is simply overwhelming.

I believe each of us could fill our own books of what He has done for us. I’ve filled about 10-20 myself. How many have you filled?

Day 1406 – An AWESOME Vendor – DJ And Limo – Baltimore Maryland

I had the privilege of working with THE best limo driver at the Kristofco Wedding! Barry was kind, professional and knew just what to ask at each location.

The highlight for me was when we (the bride and I) were about to leave for the first look. He asked her, “ok, do you have your something old, new, borrowed and blue?” When we got to borrowed, she said, “Yes! My jewelery…..MY JEWELERY!” The bride quickly put on her jewelry and we left for the church. While the getting ready location was only minutes away from the church, it saved us time. He played body guard to the room where the bride was hiding in at the church. He also carried the bride’s dress while we walked down a slightly muddy hill for pictures.

When I got his card, I knew the business name, but it didn’t hit me until later that I had worked with them before! Lasting Impressions was the DJ for the McLean Wedding! If you get the super deluxe DJ package, it includes entertainment! And the McLean reception didn’t disappoint….with a wedding party donned in YMCA props…to the limbo…to the bride’s dad dressing up like Elvis!

Super fun company to work with!!

Here’s a shot of Barry and I!
