About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 2048 – I Am Not Superwoman….I’m Batman

Yesterday was tough my friends. Really tough. I am so independent and have such a problem with control and pride. Being forced to stay in bed all day and night was so hard. But it reminded me of purposeful thankfulness – which I think is basically getting really, really specific with your thankfulness. Being thankful for your eyes to see, gas in your car, a job to pay for gas in the car, a roof over your head, etc.. Being stuck in bed for about 36 hours made me thankful for a few things…

– That most of the time I am able to walk with ease.
– That I have running water and live in a home with multiple bathrooms (this was probably one that my family was more thankful for yesterday…)
– That God is gracious and merciful and allows me to have full mobility most of the time.
– That it’s not the end of the world if I can’t work a day.
– That I have someone who loves me so much he’ll spend some of his snow day taking care of me.
– That if nothing else, I’m Batman. πŸ™‚

Day 2047 – Why My Husband Rocks

Unfortunately, I’m post dating another post. *sigh* But, I feel I have a good reason.

I was super excited about today when I first woke up. Bret had a snow day and we knew he had it since the night before…so we didn’t have to set an alarm. I was looking forward to a day of hanging out and getting some stuff done. I mean, I’ve been “off” for three days already.

Well, my body had other ideas. When I woke up, it was clear very quickly that I was extremely unwell. By the end of it, I think I had food poisoning. Ugh, that is NOT fun. There were a few times I had to lay down on the floor just walking from my room to the bathroom. There were a few times Bret had to walk with me so I didn’t pass out.

So why does my husband rock? Well, he helped me walk around. He brought me water. When I was feeling slightly better, he even made me mashed potatoes! What a guy! πŸ™‚

Day 2046 – Celebrating Eight Years Knowing Each Other

Last night into today, we took a mini get away! Bret had off today for President’s Day and we decided to do a little trip. What’s funny is that we only went about 15 minutes from our home. But we didn’t mind. It was a great hotel, we had a giftcard for a restaurant near by and we just wanted to celebrate something great….the fact that eight years ago today, we met each other.

I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than with the SNL 40th anniversary special, parts of Independence Day, sleeping in, breakfast in bed (room service, thank you very much!) and watching The Edge of Tomorrow. Thanks for the best 25% of my life Mr. G. πŸ™‚
