We’re going away with some friends this weekend and it’s going to look a bit like this! Can’t wait!

I’ve been wanting to incorporate more play into my life. So, I did! I hopped on the swing, almost flew away, got level with the bar and jumped off. It was pure glee.
Friends, go swing!

You may remember our super awesome scratch off map that we purchased last year. Well, I decided to give a mock up of what it will look like in a month!
If you want to follow our travels across the country, I’ve created a hashtag! #MrAndMrsGSeaToSea The best way to keep up is on my Instagram but it does link to my personal Facebook page.
Here’s our “updated map!” Can you believe how accurate my paint edits are??

We started living a minimalist life through a series of decisions that really had no larger purpose in mind. We started sleeping on the floor because it felt better on Bret’s back. We didn’t get a bed for our apartment because we didn’t have a truck. We didn’t keep things that didn’t fit in the car because we were curious to see how that would work. It really seems like a backwards way of getting to where we are now.
After we made these decisions, we thought about the why. Why are we not keeping things? Why are we getting rid of so much? It really came down to living as sojourner’s in this world. We believe this world is not our home. We’re just passing through. Why settle down if this isn’t the final destination?
Another question we get when we encourage others to live this way is ‘what are you filling your time with? Why cut care of things out?’ (i.e. not having a lawn to cut, etc) It’s something we’ve been pondering recently. We’re big on seriously considering our decisions. When someone asks us why about a decision we make, we take the time to rethink our position and choices.
So, I knew we had the sojourner reason. But I discovered another reason this morning, or I should say, I was able to put words to another why while listening to a John Piper sermon on prayer. He referenced Matthew 6:25-34 (see below) about the birds of the air not worrying because God takes care of them. So why don’t we worry and think about worldly concerns? So we can seek the kingdom of God. That is a big reason why we do what we do and live why we live – to have more time and brain space to learn about God. To dwell on his word and what it means for our lives. We have created an environment in our home where we aren’t distracted by cleaning lots of things or having to take care of lots of material things – so that we can sit back, relax and meditate on God.
“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. ‘Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.‘” Matthew 6:25-34

I can’t believe we’re leaving for our cross country trip NEXT week! Time has really flown by this spring/summer already. So! I need your help preparing. One of the things that help the miles melt away is a great audiobook. I had a whole stack of potentials, but I listened to a few minutes and almost fell asleep in my chair – not good for driving. I did find two great ones read by their authors, but the total time is only about 12 hours. What are your favorite audiobooks? Think the ones that have a great reader. Maybe even different readers. The first year we drove, I listened to the Hunger Games. That book got me through a LOT of the trip!
p.s. Thanks to my Facebook friends who have answered already! 🙂
