About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 2665 – How To Get Ready For Work In 8 Minutes

Here’s how our morning was supposed to go:

6:00 a.m. – alarm goes off, snooze once
6:09 a.m. – alarm goes off, Bret gets up, Jen snoozes
6:11 a.m. – Bret makes coffee, does dishes and gets ready for day
6:16 a.m. – Jen gets up, enjoys cup of coffee, takes shower
7:15 a.m. – Bret and Jen leave for work
7:30 a.m. – Bret arrives at work
8:15 a.m. – Jen arrives at work

Here’s how our morning actually went:
6:00 a.m. – alarm goes off – no sound
6:01 a.m. – second alarm goes off – no sound
7:44 a.m. – Bret jumps out of bed and says, “WHAT TIME IS IT??” Jen looks at phone – “7:44….”
7:45 a.m. – Bret scrambles to get dressed pack his lunch, Jen gets in the shower
7:52 a.m. – Bret and Jen leave for work
9:05 a.m. – Jen arrives at work

I may have forgotten to put lotion on my face, grabbed flip flops rather than shoes and didn’t realize what was going on for a good 10-30 minutes….but we got out of the house in 8 minutes.

Here’s one of the reasons that was possible.

Day 2664 – Well, It Didn’t Backfire

You may be wondering how my 4 cavity extravaganza went. I’m happy to report, quite well! We only filled 2 yesterday, still more than I’ve ever had filled at once. I have to say, my new dentist is pretty cool. When I went for a cleaning a few weeks ago, I got my xrays taken by an open air machine. I got an almost 360 picture of my teeth in under a minute. SO thankful I didn’t have to do those big bite wing thingambobs! By the time I sat down in the chair for the cleaning, my xrays were ON MY FILE on the computer next to the chair! After that experience, I was curious to see what the filings would be like. As I sat down, the dentist clicked on a live video button. What? Turns out, they have a camera they can put in my mouth to take pictures at different points during the procedure. I was able to see the before, during and after. It was pretty flippin cool. Now, I don’t have the best teeth, thanks to my poor habits when I had braces….so it was a little embarrassing to see my nasty ol’ teeth on a screen like that. BUT, it was sooooooo neat. I also have to say, the dentist was done in about 40 minutes. Not too shabby! I spent the rest of the day eating sorbet and resting. Shout out to the best hubby ever who got me mashed potatoes and gravy and all kinds of food I could eat.

Hello to a little cleaner of a mouth for my AHHHHH selfies…

Day 2663 – When Getting Everything Done At Once Backfires….Maybe

I’m a bit of an overachiever. I like to be the best. Sometimes I won’t play a game with others if I don’t think I will win. I like to be logistical in my grocery shopping and errands. I think about how much gas I’ll use to get from A to B to C. I’ll even add in my “hourly rate” to see if it’s worth going.

I’m thinking that this part of myself is going to backfire today. See, I went about 3 years without going to the dentist. I finally went and, of course, I have 4 cavities. Now, a normal person would schedule 4 appointments. Or maybe 2. But me? I’m not exactly normal. So, I figured, hey, why not knock them all out in one day? Hence, today, I will get 4 cavities filled. Thankfully, my new dentist is right across the street. Since I’m not sure how I’ll be, I’ve cleared my schedule and I’m knocking out my work as much as possible this morning. Hopefully, I’m over-planning and will be just fine when I arrive home.

Stay tuned…

Have you ever tried to be logistical like this and it totally backfired?
