Day 1278 – Collecting Dust No More

I decided to start really diggin’ down in scripture today and pulled this book off my shelf. I’ve had it for SO long!

Little blip that I liked so far….

“Your silver has become dross, your best wine mixed with water.”
Isaiah 1:22

“But the judgment here is not the end of the story; its purpose is to smelt away the dross. Afterward, what remains will be a chastened people of God.”
ESV Study Bible.

The reason I like these things so much are because they’re talking about one of my favorite analogies. That is when the fire burns the dross off the silver, it rises to the top and then you’re left with beautiful, shiny gold. I love comparing this to life. You go through really tough trials (fire), it brings all the crap to the surface (dross), you realize what’s “bad” inside you and then you grow (the dross is cleaned away).

Day 1277 – The Freelancer’s Bible

So, today, my dad surprised me with this book! I can’t wait to get reading!!

Here’s a quick quote from the 2nd page!
“Freelancing is a fluid work medium that rewards nimbleness and flexibility. When it’s working well, there’s no better feeling.”
Sara Horowitz – The Freelancer’s Bible

I’m sure you’ll hear me talking about this book again!

Day 1276 – I Have A Love/Hate Relationship With My Husband’s New Business

As you know, Bret started a new business. I found myself thinking when I wanted a soda or something, oh, maybe I shouldn’t drink that since Bret is in business for personal training. Just a few quick thoughts here and there.

Then, at the show, a lady asked if my job was modeling. It’s funny, this wasn’t a “struggle with pride” question. It was more a funny question! I don’t see myself as model material. I’m decently happy with myself, but not “THAT level.” I said no, that I was a photographer. She asked me if I’d be interested in modeling for her….I said I was pretty busy with my business and that my husband just started his own business and it’s just been crazy. When she found out he was a personal trainer, she said something along the lines of “so THAT’S why you look so good!” (I’m going to interject here…yes I’m interrupting myself…the ONLY reason I looked SO good was the stunning, EXCLUSIVE to their store, bridal gown from K&B Bridals and the AMAZING hair and makeup by Amie Decker Beauty. It was NOT me! Think of me as an ugly old lump of clay made into a pretty pot by others!) It hit me at this point that, wow, I REALLY need to be mindful of my appearance now. It is a reflection of my husband’s business.

I’ll try and share little tips later about how I make small choices that make big differences over the next few months. Keep an eye on my Pinterest board for quicker updates!

For now, here’s a picture of my husband hiking in the woods barefoot.

Day 1275 – Pride, It Comes In All Sizes

Yesterday, I modeled for K&B Bridals and Event Planning. It was SO much fun! I felt like a brand new person. It was AMAZING. I’ll share more pictures as they become available! It was a great time of being on the other side of the camera. (Boy, do you guys put up with a lot! Juuuust kidding)

I have shared a little before about my pride problems. It is a sin that I didn’t realize I struggled with until about 3-4 years ago. Now, I’m not talking about “good” pride. Like, I’m proud of my work or proud of my husband. I’m talking the deep seated, I’m better than you pride.

When I sat down to get my hair done, I made a few comments about having awesome hair and how I planned on selling it one day (I’ve heard you can get like $500 bucks for hair!) I didn’t really think about these comments too much until I got home.

I noticed at dinner after the show that I had hair extensions in! I had NO idea they were in there! When I got home and started pulling out the bobby pins and hair, I found I also had a doughnut sized fluff thing to give me more volume.

Then it hit me….wow….there I was thinking I had this great hair and they had to do SO much to it to make it look good. That’s when I realized pride had risen it’s ugly head again.

This makes me so thankful that Christ has already paid the price for my sins. Even ones as “insignificant” to others as pride in my hair.

For giggles, here’s a picture of everything that came out of my head!
