Day 2532 – Thrice Show #1! – Fillmore Silver Spring, Maryland – or – My Funeral Song

Can I just say I am SO happy that Thrice is back on the road and putting out new amazing music again?!?!?

If you’ve read this blog for a while, you know not seeing Thrice on their “farewell tour” was a regret…and I don’t have many of them. Seeing them last year was just fantastic! We had a wonderful weekend away and it felt like a dream come true. This year, we’re able to see them TWICE, last night and tomorrow. What a great way to kickoff to our road trip!

Another very special thing happened at the show. First, a little background. I’ve experienced a lot of death in my life, as such, I’ve always lived with a “you never know if you have tomorrow” mentality and I’ve somewhat planned my funeral. It’s a big reason why we have a will. For many, many years, I’ve had one of my “funeral songs” picked out. It speaks of what I want my life to be. It’s how I want to be remembered. And by golly, it’s a song you can rock out to. They finished the set (minus the encore) with THIS song. It was amazing. I moshed to this song. I moshed to a song that I want played at my funeral. Friends, you never know how much time you have left…make sure you mosh when you can. 🙂

Here’s audio of the song:

Here are the lyrics:

“I know one day, all our scars will disappear
Like the stars at dawn and all of our pain
Will fade away when morning comes

And on that day when we look backwards we will see
That everything is changed and all of our trials
Will be as milestones on the way

And as long as we live
Every scar is a bridge to someone’s broken heart
And there’s no greater love
Than that one shed his blood for his friends

On that day all of the scales will swing to set
All the wrongs to right, all of our tears
All of our fears will take to flight

But until then all of our scars will still remain
We’ve learned that if we’ll open the wounds
And share them then soon they start to heal

And as long as we live
Every scar is a bridge to someone’s broken heart
(There’s no greater love, shed your blood for your friends)
And there’s no greater love
Than that one shed his blood for his friends

We must see that every scar is a bridge
And as long as we live we must open up these wounds
When some one stands in your shoes
And will shed his own blood, there’s no greater love
We must open up our wounds”

Day 2136 – Finally Seeing Thrice

I told you back in February about something we’ve been wanting to do for a while, see Thrice in concert. Well, this weekend we finally did, and it was AWESOME!

The festival took place in Asbury Park, NJ, just off the beach. So, we took silly beach selfies – obviously.

Then we caught the beginning of a wedding….

And then rocked out to Thrice! It was an awesome show! They played a lot of our favorite songs and we sang along quite a bit. Can’t wait to see them again! (well, hopefully!)
