Day 3431 – Childlike Wonder And Awe – or – The Secret To A Happy Life – repost

What’s really funny is that I was going to post about the importance of keeping your routine today….and here I am at 4:30 writing this post. I noticed this fun post in my memories and had to reshare it!

We hear over and over, have childlike faith. Be curious like a kid. Look at life like a kid does. There is so much to be learned from how a kid looks at the world, meets challenges, and how they play. One thing I’m VERY thankful for is a husband who loves to play too. This morning, I was reminded afresh of the power of childlike wonder. I watched a video about this guy who built Kylo Ren’s TIE silencer and BB-9E only from parts bought on eBay. He then shows the final product to a Star Wars kid’s club. The looks of absolute wonder and joy were enough to make me weep almost immediately. Take a peek at this short video about it. If you want to see the childlike joy reactions, start at about 1:40.

I want to live my life like that, to stop and say “WOW!” and not care what people think of my reaction. To appreciate what is right in front of me. And to actually play with it. How often do we build things, and then not enjoy them? I mean, seriously, you work so hard to have money in the bank, and “have a certain life,” but when was the last time you actually enjoyed it and played with it? I could certainly learn this lesson with books from the library. I’ll spend hours finding and getting new books, but I find sometimes it’s hard to actually sit down and read them.

In honor of playing today, I am wearing these.

I might even put on these.

How are you playing today? How are you seeking childlike wonder?

Day 3079 – Thoughts On The Last Jedi And The Double Feature Experience (No Spoilers!)

I am sitting here, fully rested, after a roughly six hour movie watching experience, very satisfied.

I decided somewhat last minute (seriously, tickets went quickly!) to attend a double feature showing of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. I arrived about 40 minutes before the first movie was slated to start. With my ticket, I received a badge and some large trading cards. To save some money, I used the last CFA calendar freebie beforehand to get a sandwich, but I did purchase a drink. I settled into my seat and waited. It was great watching The Force Awakens right before seeing The Last Jedi. I’m so glad I did, and I plan on doing it again if a similar option is available in two years. As soon as the credits started rolling at the end of TFA, I got up to make a quick intermission break. I stopped by the snack bar first, having decided to get a popcorn for the second movie. I thought I saw something about getting free popcorn, but it wasn’t offered (and I didn’t ask….don’t ask, don’t get!) I thought it was worth a splurge to get some popcorn, so with my badge around my neck and my drink in hand, I ordered a regular popcorn. That’s when the girl said, oh, you get a free one! Woo! I’ll take it! I knocked out all the intermission tasks of bathroom breakage, soda refill, and popcorn buttering.

One thing I wish I did sooner was start talking to those sitting around me. I mean, come on, I’m surrounded by “my people.” These are folks who are willing to pay for two movie on opening night. They love Star Wars as much as I do. But I ended up bored for a while. Since this was a special thing, they didn’t show any of the normal “pre-movie” stuff. We had a quiet theater for the 30 minutes between movies. There was a very funny dad a few rows down who said things to the 4-5 kids (maybe about 8/9ish-12ish?) with him like “no bathroom breaks, or making noise or anything during this next movie.” or “when we leave, don’t say a word! Have a good poker face, no grinning or frowning! There are people out there who have been waiting to watch and you can’t give anything away.”

I want to say very very little about the movie. I don’t want to give anything away (even though I have sooooo many thoughts). I am very happy with the movie. I’m happy with how they handle things. I can’t wait to watch it again, especially now after reading a few reviews/theories/etc. There was one thing that I didn’t like at first, but after reading something that addressed that particular thing, I am very happy with it. One thing that is different this year verses the previous two years is that Bret did not go with me. He opted to wait to watch it in California. Oy. It’s going to be a long 11+ days to wait to talk to him about it.

Did you go on opening night? What were your thoughts? If you leave comments, please leave them spoiler free!

Day 3078 – Star Wars Day!!!!

In just about 6 hours, I will be starting a double feature including The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Friends, I cannot put into words how excited I am. I love Star Wars, whether it’s fun shirts, theory videos, Lego games, or the movies themselves. To make the day even better, Bret got a two hour delay from school, so we had some extra hang out time!

In honor of such a happy day, here are all of my Star Wars related photos!

When are you going to see The Last Jedi?
