Day 1245 – National Cotton Candy Day

So I keep a document of blog ideas…in case there’s a day where nothing interesting happens. Today isn’t really one of those days, it’s been a great day….BUT, when I looked at what today is, I HAD to blog about it! The list is mostly anniversaries of my couples, anniversaries in my business, but it’s also holidays. Super silly holidays. What’s today? Oh you know….

NATIONAL COTTON CANDY DAY!

And what better way to show love than by sharing a Cotton Candy cupcake from Flavor Cupcakery!

So, enjoy the day. Go get some super sweet sugary goodness. 🙂

Day 1214 – La Cakerie, Jason Hisley And A Place For All Who Love Bacon, Cheese, Cupcakes and Bread

You might remember Jason Hisley from my post about him being on Sweet Genuis, or from Flavor Cupcakery or from stopping by his new shop, La Cakerie.

I met Jason through Flavor Cupcakery and officially at his Sweet Genius viewing party. We’re now Facebook friends…and that makes me feel like I know a celebrity. 🙂 I was invited to the opening of La Cakerie on Saturday…but just couldn’t make it out. I FINALLY made it by his new shop today! It worked out really well, because I was able to pick up Bret from school so we could try it together. I do want to point out that there is parking behind the shop! Wish I’d known before we paid to park…it was only a buck, but still….that’s another buck we could have spent in his store!

Ok, first impressions here…..I wanted to buy everything. I was drooling. Oooing and aaaaahing for about 5 minutes. It took us forever to make a decision. Check out the spread!

Yes, you read that right….Maple Bacon Donut. Hold on…there’s more…

So with all these wonderful choices, what did we get you ask? Here’s a picture….after we started digging in…

We got a soft pretzel with cheese, a HUGE cinnamon roll with the most AMAZING cream cheese icing and the Maple Bacon Donut. We also got a loaf of bread, not pictured, but just as delish.

Now you might be thinking, um, how was that donut? It was actually pretty amazing! Great combination of seemingly opposite tastes. I honestly couldn’t get over how perfectly they went together. The pretzel and cinnamon roll were just amazing.

So, what are you waiting for?? Go check them out! Here’s what they look like from the outside.

Their address is 49 W Chesapeake Ave, Towson, MD 21204 and their hours are 7am-7pm Monday through Saturday.

Day 1173 – Happy 13th Anniversary To The Still!!

I’ve been waiting for tonight for a while! I have loved The Still in Timonium for years! I introduced Bret to it when he moved to Maryland. It’s an AWESOME Irish Pub. Ah, it will be one of the things I miss when we move.

We had a blast taking part in the 13th anniversary celebration! We had a ton of free appetizers…and they were all amazing! We also got a glass of free wine each. And then split a bottle (half price on Wednesdays!) It was the first time either of us had ever gotten a whole at a restaurant. I gotta say, it was pretty cool. 🙂

I didn’t take my camera, so here’s an old picture of us wearing green.

Day 1158 – Padonia Park Club Fall Tasting

Last night, we had a booth set up at the Padonia Park Club Fall Tasting. We LOVE coming out to the tastings! I love meeting new brides, Bret loves the chocolate fountain. 🙂 I also invited one of my previous brides, Lauren Summers!! She was such a great help! It was fun to say, and this is Lauren, that’s her picture over there!! 🙂

I was really happy with how it went too! I made several appointments and met some really awesome brides! I had a giveaway too! The winner will be announced at the bottom. But first, here’s a few of my favorite parts of the evening! (Check out all the pictures here!)

This was the setup in the pavilion! LOVE the fall colors!!

These were just gorgeous! So many beautiful flowers, but these were my fav.

And my FAVORITE table! Ravens colors baby!! (note: we got to catch the last part of the game after the show! WOO! Go Ravens!)

I think this was my favorite part of the evening….the sparkly drapes! I couldn’t stop looking at them! Good thing our table was facing the other way! This was provided by R&R Events!

And lastly….I had a drawing for a $50 Victoria’s Secret gift card!

And the winner was….Jeenah P! Yay!!!! 🙂

Day 1154 – The Greatest Hummus Recipe Ever or I Love Pinterest

I’m crazy about Pinterest. I use it mostly for fun, to get ideas and share things with others. I found a great pin a while back and finally got to try it out!

We were signed up to take snack to our bible study on Wednesday and when trying to figure out what to take, I looked at my “Foods to Try” board….and tried not to look at my “Foods I Shouldn’t Try, but REALLY Want To!!!” board! (Man I have some good lookin’ food on that board!)

Anyways, I saw the veggie one and I knew that’s what I wanted to make. I also made two batches of hummus to go along with it (recipe at the bottom). One was Old Bay (and THE best hummus I’ve ever made, hands down) and the other was Tomato Basil, which was also very good.

I also got some fruit and Bret put together a really fun display!

And now, the BEST hummus recipe I’ve found. It’s a little messy to make because of some of the ingredients, so I recommend making it right next to your sink, if you can.

15 oz can chickpeas
1/2 cup tahini*
5 tbsp oil
1/4 cup lemon juice
4 medium garlic cloves
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/8 tsp ground red pepper
1 tbsp oil (optional)

Drain and rinse chickpeas, reserving 1/2 cup of the liquid. Combine all ingredients in a food processor (or blender**). Process until mixture is smooth. If mixture is too thick, add 1-2 tbsp of reserved chickpea liquid***. Move to serving dish and add 1 tbsp oil, if desired.

Old Bay Hummus
Same as above, minus salt, pepper or ground red pepper. I added about 2-3 tbsp of Old Bay instead. This is a “to taste” ingredient. I put in a bit…then poured in some more…thought it was too much…but after I tasted it, realized it was perfect. If you are from Baltimore, you know that there is no such thing as “too much Old Bay.”

Tomato Basil Hummus
Same as above, minus salt, pepper or ground red pepper. I added one full tomato and a bunch of basil. I used dried basil, but I would imagine fresh basil would be tasty! Now, since I used a whole tomato, it made the mixture a little watery, so I just opened another can of chickpeas and added about 1/4-1/3 of the can.

* find this near the peanut butter in the store. I have purchased it at Wal-Mart. This is also one of the messy ingredients.
** I have NOT had luck making a double batch in the blender
*** I typically will add 2 tbsp of the chickpea liquid at the beginning. I’ve also found that if you drain the liquid into a measuring cup (I use a 3 cup), it’s much easier (and cleaner) when adding more to the hummus.

I’d love to know how it works out for you! Share your hummus story below!
