11 years ago, I was in a long distance relationship, like super long distance. Bret was deployed to Iraq and our communication was very limited and inconsistent. He’d send emails or MySpace messages from time to time. I’d get letters as well. In rare circumstances, I’d also get a phone call. Those were so so so special. Because I knew they were a limited time and he’d have to wait to get to access a phone.
Even when he was living in California, we were limited in communication. But that experience has been HUGE for our relationship and I still see the benefits of that time now. It makes me so thankful for conversations we can have regularly.
Having a long distance relationship really forces you to work on the communication and that is one thing that I attribute our awesome marriage to. Sure, it would’ve been nice to have met someone in my own time zone, and had a normal relationship, but what I have gained by having a crazy relationship has more than made that short time worth it…..ha ha, and I ended up with a crazy relationship and that suits me so much better.
