Day 1995 – Bi-Coastal Flight + 2 Carryon Bags = Life Lessons

In normal Jen and Bret fashion, we waited until the day before we left to pack our bags for our trip. While we were packing, we had a crazy thought – only take two carryon bags. So we took everything out of our bags and looked at what we had…and we realized we could do it. We’re here for about ten days and brought enough for that time. Here’s what I learned about myself and life in the process.

– When you’re forced to pick only what you absolutely need, the unimportant becomes obviously apparent.
– If you think something is impossible, if you HAVE to attempt it, you might find that it is possible.
– When everything is in your possession, you don’t have to wait for others.
– When you do something you’ve never done before, it’s a really satisfying feeling to actually do it.

I have to admit, I was a little nervous about going through security with shampoo and all that jazz (because I would always check it in the past), but it was a great feeling knowing that I could. We were through security in about 15 minutes….on Christmas Eve no less! It was also great when we got to California, we didn’t have to wait for our bags, we could walk right out the door and meet Bret’s parents.

So, lesson learned? It is possible to travel across the country for ten days with only the clothes and backpack on your back. 🙂

Day 1992 – The Coolest Hotel At BWI!!

Today we start a journey across the country. Sadly, we will not be driving to California this year, but it’s still been a great adventure so far!

We are flying today…crazy how you can wake up on one coast and be on the other by bed time. We have an early flight, so it made sense to get a hotel near the airport. I wanted one with a shuttle so we wouldn’t have to worry about a cab or anything like that.

I was NOT disappointed in our choice! I asked around about hotels and got some great options. But, when I was searching Aloft BWI kept coming up. It’s such a cool, modern looking hotel….with a $70 price tag for Christmas Eve Eve (or Festivus…) it was a bargain. We are SO crazy about this hotel! It’s so nice and classy and fun. Clean and comfortable room.

I think THE best part was the coffee packaging, I mean, come on! 🙂

Day 1926 – Camping At Granite Hill Campground With Clients Who Became Friends

We just returned from camping with several of our previous clients, who are now friends. I LOVE how much this group has taken us in! We’ve been invited to their “family” (you all know the adopted friends who are really family) camping trip and some of their holiday celebrations. We always talk about wanting to become friends with our clients and I LOVE when it gets to this level! I can’t wait until next year!

So, what does this camping weekend look like?

First, it starts with a beautiful sunset at check-in.

The Saturday Night Stew Tradition…..every person brings a can of something (non-dairy based and people food)….and we toss it all in a pot….finished off with some Ramen noodles. The past two years we’ve had it, it tastes amazing! We’ve been told it’s always good!!!
