Day 2865 – Sunday Night Date Night

Last night, I was SO jazzed by my epic day of finalizing SO much with my road trip business (did you join the Facebook group yet?), and we had both worked really hard all week and weekend, that we wanted to go out and celebrate. We got to finally see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and finished up the date with an Oreo milkshake….Johnny Rockets was closing, so thankfully we were able to order one to go! It was a great time of just hanging out and enjoying a really fun movie. I love movies where I laugh like that. 😀

Did you do anything fun this weekend?

Day 2861 – Is Your Dream Taking A While? Take Heart

As I scrolled through my On This Day on Facebook this morning, I saw my blog post from this day last year. I was still cranking away on my first book. That sucker took FOREVER to write. Years, actually. It felt so good to finally finish and put that guy out into the world. I look back and think, “why did I wait so long?” I know part of the reason was the type of book I wrote was one that needed a long marination in my brain. I felt myself changed in the process. Now that it is published, and I’ve gone through the process, it it much easier to take the journey. I’m working on two books right now – planning a road trip on any budget, and a memoir on my alcoholism and sobriety (this is a little hint towards my big goals…) I am getting super close to the next step in my road trip book (proofreading) and it is just crazy how quickly this book came together. I think I started with a completely blank slate in January, and here I am only a few months later and getting close to publishing my second book. So friends, take heart if your journey is taking longer than you thought it would. It may be that growth is what’s needed now.

Day 2858 – The Importance Of Big Goals

Yesterday, I made a big goal for myself. I’m not ready to share what that is with you guys yet, but stay tuned. I can tell you this – I hope to have this goal met by June 18th, my 35th birthday. Stay tuned for more info as things move along!

Here’s something I’ve discovered about myself – I need big goals, I need deadlines, and I need to have something I care about deeply. By setting a date on the calendar, I worked backwards to figure out what I need to do, and when. It’s crazy how much of a jump start this gave me today. I’ve accomplished more in this particular area this morning than I have in a month.

What are your big goals? Are you afraid to set them? Let me know in the comments below.

Day 2849 – How To Travel To St. Petersburg, Florida For Under $140 – or – Travel Secret – Visit Your Friends

I want to give a huge shout out to my friend Mara Glazer. She put up with me for four days, and showed me around the amazing St. Petersburg and surrounding areas. She got me some food, picked me up and dropped me off at the airport, and drove me around. What I love about having business owner friends is that we can both work and not feel like we’re ignoring the other person. If you’re a business owner, make sure you surround yourself with other business owners!

I had a realization while I was in Florida that there is a travel hack I don’t think about that much, it’s one of the reasons we’ve been able to travel so much for so little – visiting friends and family. I’m sure you can think of people in your life who live in other parts of the country. Maybe they’ve moved for work, or to be with their spouse. I’m sure they miss seeing you and would love to have a visitor. I lucked out in that my friend lives in a truly beautiful place. I could not stop commenting at how clear the water was (funny enough, at Clearwater Beach). The sand was so smooth.

So if you think you can’t afford to travel, think about your friends in other places, would they like a visitor? Can you sleep on their floor?

Now, without further ado, here are my actual numbers from my trip to Florida.

A few notes – Mara bought some food for me, did all of the driving, and didn’t charge me to sleep in her guest room. I used Southwest miles, which means I had to spend money to earn the miles. But we use our Southwest card like cash – paying things off each month. I used my Dunkin Donuts app to buy my coffee at the airport. There was a special of $1.49 any size coffee if you use the app.

Plane ticket fee after miles – $11.20
Snacks and toiletries – $14.68
Dunkin coffee at airport – $1.58
Meal with Mara – $55.09
Magnet souvenir – $4.27
Shirt and magnet souvenir – $18.17
More food and beach snacks – $8.43
Parking for the beach – $13.50
Lemonade on the beach – $2.70
Snacks for the plane – $8.88
Drink before flight – $1.49
Total spent – $139.99

The biggest lesson I learned is that travel with friends is the best way to travel. You can share costs, and really, it’s the best kind of travel.

Here are some of my favorite photos from the trip!
