Day 2705 – An Exciting Announcement And A Request For Help!

I’ve been hinting towards something we’re planning on doing for a little while. I can tell you part of that plan today! Bret and I are starting a YouTube Channel! Stay tuned for our first video!

What will our videos focus on? We want to spend some time talking about traveling. One video I hope to make before Christmas will focus on how we travel to California for 7-10ish days each year with one carry-on each. Another video will show you how we make our bed for sleeping on the floor. We’ll probably do some videos about our most recent road trip and share a few videos we took.

What else? That’s where we need some help! If you’ve followed our blog for a while, you know a bit about us. What kinds of things would you like to learn more about? Are you interested in a tour of our apartment and ways we minimize? Do you want to see how I make some of our meals? You know we’re pretty open about things here on the blog, so go ahead and suggest something you think we might not do! 🙂

I can’t wait to share our videos with y’all!!

Day 2704 – There Is a Restaurant Called Mr. & Mrs. G’s Home Cooking And We Didn’t Visit It!

During our 2013/2014 California drive, we came home the super southern route through Texas. We stopped in San Antonio to see some of our clients. We got to explore San Antonio and it became one of our favorite cities we’ve visited in the country.

I was doing a search last night for website availability using our names (stay tuned for news about that…maybe a few days, maybe a few months) and I found a restaurant called Mr. & Mrs. G’s Home Cooking. You know we’ve tried Mr. G’s here. I can’t believe there is a place called Mr. & Mrs. G’s and we JUST missed it! Guess we’ll have to take a trip back down to Texas!

Day 2700 – We Don’t Give Christmas Gifts

I read a fantastic article yesterday – The Case Against Buying Christmas Presents. It really struck a chord and I wanted to share it and my thoughts on gift giving at Christmas.

I stopped buying Christmas presents about 9 years ago. Like most things in my life, I started/stopped doing it for a superficial reason but the deeper reasons that resulted from the change became very important to me. I stopped Christmas gifts because of my own debt and the example of a close family from church who didn’t do gifts. I thought, huh, that’s interesting. So, I stopped. I’ll admit, that first Christmas was a little awkward, but my friends and family know I don’t do gifts. I still get a few gifts here and there (which I totally appreciate!) but now it’s expected that I won’t give one back.

As time went on, I still didn’t give Christmas gifts. Bret felt the same about giving gifts, so we didn’t. Looking back, I can see how those deeper reasons were a lot of the points the author of the above article made. Since we’re minimalists, we’re all about less stuff. And in turn, we don’t want to add to someone else’s “stuff.” It also frees us to give generously at other times of the year. The unexpected gifts are the best, in my opinion. 🙂

But I have to say, the biggest benefit has been a nearly stress-free holiday season, every year. There’s no “what am I going to get XXX for Christmas?” or “I have SO much to do!” Honestly, the biggest stress of our holidays is getting to and from the airport and flight delays. Since we’re not stressed about all the “stuff you have to do” at the holidays, we can truly sit back and reflect about the real reason for Christmas.

So, what do you think? Are we completely crazy?
(Just be glad I didn’t talk about some of the other topics that we’re REALLY in the minority about!)
