Day 3489 – Puzzle Day – or – Life Doesn’t Always End Up Where You Think It Will

I am an unabashed fan of puzzles and I have spent a good portion of my life completing puzzles.

I think part of the reason I love puzzles so much is that life is a lot like a puzzle. When you approach a new thing, whether it’s a new business, a new relationship, a new problem to solve, it’s like a puzzle. At first, you have a big fat mess in front of you, nothing makes sense and it seems almost impossible that it will come together.

But then you start working on it – you lay everything picture side up, you pull out the edges, you group colors, and you get to work. Little by little, things come together and make sense.

What’s great about a puzzle is that you know it has a solution and can be completed. Well….except for puzzles like this.

There are some puzzles where you have a piece or group of pieces that you SWEAR goes in this section, I mean, look at the pieces! But then you get to that point and realize you were completely wrong and that section goes on the opposite side of the puzzle.

Ah, how much life this is! I find myself closing up shop on this blog, in the process of deleting my Facebook, and focusing all of my attention on real estate investing….um, what? Where in my life history was there any hint towards this?

But as I’m moving closer to that point, I’m realizing it does make sense. Going on an appointment with Bret to chat with someone about their house feels very much like when we would meet with wedding photography clients. When we would chat with folks and get to know them and help them. That was one piece of this business that I didn’t expect – how much we get to help people.

I look at my work history in the clerical, admin, human resources, and IT spaces and it very much helps in the behind the scenes aspects of our business.

I look at my passion for increasing my knowledge through reading business books and personal growth and how it helps me grow faster than I otherwise could.

I look at some of the struggles and hard times I’ve gone through, and how they’ve prepared me in a way I didn’t expect.

So if your life doesn’t look like you think it should or you have no idea how you’ll end up where you want to go, just sit back, and focus on a small part of the puzzle, it will all come together eventually.

Day 3487 – Non-Alcoholic Beer Win!

I have to say, there are times that I miss drinking, especially when it comes to trying new beers. But drinking is one of those things I will never do again. I’ve tried a few non-alcoholic drinks over the years and have really only been wowed once.

A few nights back, we were at a large liquor store, I’m talking “you need a cart if you shop here” large. I was curious how large the selection of non-alcoholic drinks would be and at first, thought it was rather small. But the skies opened up, and I found THREE really cool non-alcoholic beers.

It felt so good to have something new to try and something that was actually pretty good. 🙂

Do you have any favorite non-alcoholic beers?

Day 3484 – Belly Laugh Day

A big belly laugh does so much to cure what ails us. Bret shared this video and it just cracks us up. Hopefully you can get a nice belly laugh out of it too.

Day 3483 – I Left Out The Best Part Of Yesterday’s Post

One of the reasons I was excited to write about the book yesterday was the following story. So I mentioned how the book helped me run more and that was a neat experience. I’ve also mentioned that I’m doing a virtual race, The Unicorn. After my run where I kept pushing because of the book, I took at peek at my progress.

Dudes, the race ends where the book starts. I was so blown away by the further connection. It was so cool to have my reading life come to life!

Day 3482 – The End Of The World Running Club

Oh my, this was a fun book. I’m all about the end of the world type books and with my recent “finding my groove” with running, it was just plain great. What was interesting about this though, was that it was one of the few times that something I read helped me in the physical world in such a powerful way.

As I’m reading, I thought, you know, I wonder how far I could run without stopping, and if I turned off my distance prompts on Runkeeper. It was a little rough since I’ve had essentially a month break from running. But I found myself thinking things like “if I had to run 500 miles to Bret right now, would I keep going?” It helped me keep pushing.

Haha, this experience also reminded me of why I’m slowly increasing my miles. I did this run three days ago and I’m still sore (and who am I kidding, I had ZERO desire to go outside and run in single digit temps). The biggest roadblock for me in making progress in my running (and most of my working out experiences) was being so sore I couldn’t work out for more days than I should. I’d rather run shorter distances and slowly increase if it means I can run three-four times a week consistently.

If you’re into running and/or the end of the world, this was an enjoyable read.
