About 365 days of marriage

I started this blog in April of 2011. At the time, Bret and I were wedding photographers and it was a way to share how marriage is more about the day to day and so much more than the wedding day itself. For about 5 years, I blogged about the joys and sorrows of the Christian walk, marriage, work, family and friends. I’ve blogged every day since a few weeks after I started. In May of 2015, we photographed our last wedding. Now, I have become passionate about simplicity, particularly in marriage, Christianity, business, travel and life. For a number of reasons, we have become minimalists. I’ve found that having simplicity makes life so much deeper, refreshing and joyful. I hope that this blog will help others see the benefits of living simply.

Day 1347 – My Grandmother’s Advice

Today was my grandfather’s funeral. It was a very nice funeral. The gospel was clearly shared, which is so awesome.

I was very impressed at my mom who shared…and if you know my mom, you know that was a HUGE deal! My grandmother also shared and I wanted to share her advice!

She said there are two things she’s learned through all of this:
If you have a dream, chase it. Don’t rob a bank or anything, but don’t put it off.
Always tell those you love (and even those you don’t) that you love them every chance you get.

At the grave site, there was a military honors service….and can I just say that is one of the most powerful things I’ve ever seen? Very impressive. Made me proud of my grandfather, my husband and all of those I know in the military.

Day 1343 – What A Beautiful Legacy

I write this post with a heavy but also joyful heart. Yesterday, my grandfather, Vernon Wilmer, passed away.

He was truly inspiring and so much of who I am came from him.

He owned and ran a printing business with my grandmother….so I get my entrepreneur spirit and working with my spouse from him.
He photographed a few weddings (didn’t enjoy it…but still)….so I get my wedding photography skills from him.
He learned how to ski and joined the ski patrol after he retired….so I get my never grow old attitude from him.

He also loved Christ and I know where he is today.

I am so thankful to have known him and that I got so much of myself from him. He will be truly missed.
